There is an ailment gaining grounds around the world, it’s been around for a while, but hadn’t been named until recently. Do you have this ailment? Have you checked to be sure you don’t? I just analyzed everyone in my family that had died at one point or the other, and it dawned on me that they die of this same ailment. It’s terminal, this means you are bound to die once you have it. Would you like to know if you have it or not? Checking the details of how it works and how you contact it may shock you! Only continue if you have the heart. Continue reading

Who is Thinking Nigeria? -2
I won’t talk about Prof Pat Utomi, because he seems already aligned with this position… being or not being is not do or die, he’s willing to work from any position to move Nigeria forward. He would willingly vice a Buhari, or take a Ribadu as vice… and that in my view is a true reflection of their experiences and how they can offer value. According to the holy books, he that is faithful in the business of managing financial resources (talents) is given charge over cities. The greatest pre-requisite to governance is financial and business mastery. Crisis becomes the order of the day when we calculate political office occupation as experience over demonstrated capacity to manage mammon. Those who take cities before they can manage personal wealth ultimately ruin cities. Don’t tell me your experience was former Governor, show us what you managed successfully before entering into the corridors of power. Even a fool knows how to spend N50 billion in a way that it will show… but then, our stomachs have craved for so long, that we now call bitter sweet!
Mallam Ribadu under “Asiwaju Congress of Nigeria” – some of these dailies are so creative. I love Ribadu, his work in the EFCC made it clear to the world, that we are all not as we are painted. It was a nationally visible role, and I would have thought that the next major assignment would have been as IG, but then, we know how it works around here. Ribadu has good followership among the elites, and if the votes were strictly out of Nigerian soil, no doubt Ribadu would have won. I don’t think anyone can take away from Ribadu his achievements within that EFCC chairman role. Most of his 25yrs as a police officer are not in public light, and there are a few here and there’s that don’t make him too saintly for the role – I have heard that we don’t need a saint, after all are we? Ribadu would get a big chance if Buhari was not running – come to think of it, the difference in their name is h and d, you can almost rearrange the letters to call the same names otherwise. I have seen the debates about the elder stepping down for the younger and supporting the younger, I think they are valid debates. I have also seen the debate of the other side. I think the answer should not be answered based on personal ambitions and a quest for “my turn”, I think it should be by “Thinking about Nigeria”.
So far, all I have seen play out, is ACN using Ribadu as it’s negotiation chip for Buhari to move to ACN as it’s aspirant. Well, I guess when a pawn reaches the line of the opponents kings, it can chose to become a queen – Let those that play chess understand
Mallam Nuhu Ribadu holds huge possibilities for a new generation in power, but is he not riding on a horse that has a mind and direction of it’s own? I like the hand he’s playing though, it’s a hand that will gather opposition support ultimately if the greed of men and their personal agenda don’t allow an alliance that has the muscle to tackle PDP, but who is thinking Nigeria? Then there is this argument that we have tried the old… in Obasanjo and are not significantly better for it (we have moved from 45% poverty to 75% poverty – the truth however is that the middle class got the better of it), let’s try someone younger. If young people support young people, young people will win – at least with population on our side. On the other hand, GEJ is also young people, and like it or not, the South South region have never had the opportunity to lead Nigeria despite producing the majority of it’s resources, and providence has provided them with one such opportunity. Let’s discount the fact that the current opportunity is being sown completely as a seed to get 4yrs, 7yrs or 8yrs (30fold, 60fold and 100fold). There is also the school of thought that we need an experience that India had in 1991, an elder state man with nothing to lose and a name to make. The thought that if a man has been in power as Governor, President, Chairman NNPC, PTF and Oil minister and can’t boast of much possessions, there shouldn’t be much else he’s looking for other than immortality.
When all the chips are down, may the options that will birth the New Nigeria be real and clear! I still believe in miracles, and nothing is too hard for God.
My prayer in all these regard, is that we would be a people that deserves the best type of leaders. Than we as a nation will humble ourselves, turn away from our wicked ways at the level of citizens and pray to the God of heaven. He says’s He’ll hear us, and heal our land! I also pray, that the fear of failure will not stop the opposition from advancing forward even if we are already late. May God help us to register, to select the best, to vote, to protect our votes and make them count.
In the final analysis, may the God that sets kings in place and deposes king, may he be our God. May the God of heaven rule and reign in the affairs of Nigeria. May the weeks ahead pass without bloodshed, and may the fresh and new Nigeria spring forth in our time. May we see the end of darkness, the end of abject poverty, the end of failed civil service and systems, the end of non inspirational leadership, the end of government by the rich that oppress the poor, the end of era corrupt generals. Let the kingdoms of this world, become the kingdom of our Lord and anointed. Amen!

The Future Started Yesterday

“The Future Started yesterday, we are already late” – John Legend
At the political round table meeting yesterday, my confidence was multiplied by 100 on the fact that come 2011 we can actually ensure that our preferred candidates win more than 60% of all the political offices in Nigeria including the very important positions. I had been motivated by optimism and passion in the past, but now I know behond doubt that we can make change happen in Nigeria! I used to think that if we fight, we may lose, but if we don’t we have already lost. Now however, I know with confidence in my heart that we actually have a good chance of not only fighting, but winning!
I am not a political strategist, I’m a patriotic and visionary Nigerian who had always prefered to be neutral, be non political and not partisan. Just face my business and leave governance and government to those who have nothing more important to do with their lives. All that started changing recently, when I began to get serious nudgings on a regular basis that -”if it is to be, it is up to me”. I discovered very quickly that all the efforts we mustered in education, empowerment, community development, enlightement, re-orientation, sponsorships and scholarships involved too much struggle, too much effort and very little lasting effects. I and a few compatriots discovered, that to make significant difference and progress, we must be involved in the leadership of Nigeria. We must be involved in more than merely voting, we must ensure that we have a voice before the elections, and ensure that our voices cannot be silenced. Knowing all these, I was still motivated by optimistic faith and the youthful passionate belief that all things are possible. Yesterday however, our movement took on a new turn as we had a political strategist with 33yrs experience join our team. This man’s experience was inspiring, haven led two presidential candidate campaigns successfully, led a few State government campaigns and delivered several local governments to power. From yesterday, we ceased operating on zeal, belief, energy and thoughts, our gears have shifted to practical strategies, reapplication of things that have worked in the past, an indept understanding of the current systems and the only ways to beat them. Good, the enemy of Great!

As you read this article I am writing, I’ll like you to think about your life, and ask yourself questions that will move you from where you are to where you are capable of being.
I remember vividly an event that occurred about 11yrs ago back in OAU -Ile Ife. We had invited this preacher to school to come address students, his name if I remember correctly was -Taiwo Adelakun. We had a great session, I guess, like all sermons, we forget! There was however one statement he made that day that I have never forgotten and interestingly a number of my friends back then have also not forgotten. While he was preaching he started talking about how some of his friends were on fire, they were extraordinary, they were gifted, they had big dreams, but most of them had settled down to the complacency of life and of staying average or good. They had settled down to having jobs, having families and following routines. Their fire had gone down, their talents were not in use, their dreams discarded, they now worked with this and that, and live here and there. He shouted a prayer from the podium, and all of us found it difficult to respond with a resounding – Amen! His prayer was strange and shocking. The prayer was, “You will Never Settle Down!”
Today I marvel at how long and how far, I wonder if most of the ears that heard those words haven’t settled down. Even you, my friend and reader, have you settled down? Can you be classified as on fire and on the cutting edge of your talent? Have you bought into the worlds philosophy of can’t, impossibile and “make do with what you have”? Did life offer you something to fill your stomach with rather than a sumptous meal? Have you settled down to what is good at the expense of what is great? While my mind easily picks out the people we would have said were exceptional, my mind painfully sorrows over those who were not even able to discover their uniqueness back in school and had seemed to settle down since after secondary school. I’ve heard great stories that have a backdrop of a fantastic childhood and the current features of dull artwork. This morning, I’ll like you help you address and attack a few major good ideologies that prevent us from being great! You must not settle down! Continue reading

Lessons from Egypt

There is so much to see about Egypt, interestingly there is so much to say as well. The Egyptian civilization is the oldest dated civilization. They have islands and temples that date back to 5000BC. Some of the sites are breath taking and some of the history, mind boggling. Egypt has managed to preserve a lot of it’s history, maximize the use of the Nile and sufficiently diversify it’s sources of income.
One thing you cannot but notice about Egypt however is how grossly similar with Nigeria Egypt is. I have traveled to a few countries, but I’m yet to see so much similarity. Egypt also is a land so blessed, but it’s people so poor. When I listened to our tour guide describe Egypt, and the resources he knows that Egypt has, my mind wanders freely back to my country. I’m not every normal vacationer in Egypt, my eyes are covered with the lens of my nations transformation. Wherever I go, one this is on my mind – what as a Nation can we learn from these other countries to better the lot of our nation Nigeria? So, today, from the Land of the Pharaohs, from the land where life after death means more than life on earth, from the land of many temples and rich history, I bring you Lessons from Egypt! One of the core things that the New Nigeria Club seeks to address is the question of identity. Not just image, but identity. In this classification, image is how you are perceived while perception is how you see yourself. True sustainable image is one that is projected directly from one’s sense of personal identity. If what I am projecting as who I am is not who I really am, it’s only a matter of time before all my projections break down.
There was a question I was asked yesterday, I’ll like to ask you too. What makes someone a Nigerian. What is our unique selling point? What differentiates us, for what course are we willing to die. Who is a Nigerian? What are our values? What do we believe in? What binds us together? For the Americans it’s easy, it’s freedom. The free spirit has been branded the American spirit. Many American’s have died for Freedom, they have a statue of Liberty that is a National Icon, they believe in freedom of speech, of e.t.c. America is synonymous to freedom! When you think Singapore, you think cleanliness. They are so crazy about keeping the town beautiful and clean that they go to almost any length. As far as ensuring their citizens or visitors don’t chew gum, for fear they might not find where to stick it
. For Germany it’s commitment, e.t.c. There are some other countries like these, some known for fashion, some known for machines, some known for their technology, some for their piracy e.t.c. What is Nigeria known for, what what makes us Nigerian, and what should it rather be? Continue reading
