Are You Proud?

Pride comes before a fall! The statement you have just read is a really rich many sided statement, it’s also a statement of fact. A quick glance at the history of falls, and you’ll see the manifestations of pride. Pride is a dangerous virtue to have, it quietly creeps on us, it’s so subtle that once you have it, you are not likely to notice it. It is a terrible disease that first blinds you from it’s existence – pride is one of such diseases. This is why from time to time, we must take an internal look, measure ourselves by the manifestations of pride and abase or humble ourselves as the opportunity presents itself. Great people don’t fall without hint, pride always shows up a few weeks before the fall.

Are you bracing yourself for a fall? Or is pride confronted and conquered. Being proud is not being loud, it has nothing to do with the more extroverted temperaments, it’s a sin that besets all. It’s a chemistry of the flesh that needs to be deactivated and uninstall-ed. Pride is a dangerous virus, once it’s loaded on your system, it sets up the major powers of the universe against you. God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. There is nothing quite devastating like setting yourself up as God’s opposition. It’s a serious question to ask, “Am I proud?” How do I know, and what do I do, to take away this harbinger of destruction. Continue reading

The Antioch Experience

About 13yrs ago, a few young guys met together for a 3 days prayer meeting code named Antioch Experience. It was in that meeting that I met Gbenga Sesan, Bayo Olotu and a few other young men. It was 3 days of sharing God’s word, praying and recieving direction from God for our futures on that campus OAU and life in general.  It was an exciting meeting, in that it left us all better men, providing an anchor of some sort for our lives. Our text then was from ACTS 13 – The Antioch Experience! A few days ago, in my daily bible study throught he book of ACTS, I stumbled again on this centrepeice – Antioch! I had for a while been contemplating a prayer meeting with friends, and as soon as I read the chapter again, it became clear what the prayer meeting will be code named.

Adventures of Deolu Akinyemi 1-1

If we indeed are a sum total of our experiences and the vital impressions they have left on us, then no individual is fully introduced until you have a glimpse at where they are coming from, and the experiences that have shaped them. It is interesting however, that we get to know people and learn from their experiences after they die in their biographies, of if they do it themselves in their later years.

Somehow the world makes us feel it’s self aggrandizement  to begin to write an autobiography at a young age, but it’s interesting however that when we read about the great, our attentions are not focused on how they died, or how they spent their old age, our eyes are riveted rather on their making, their early years. We look around for traces in them of similarities with us, as if somehow to convince ourselves that greatness has not completely eluded us. Greatness hasn’t eluded you, it’s never too late to start to do things right. When all is said and done, and your history is written, there will be no reference to the kind of car you drove, no reference to how many houses you have, no reference to how loaded your bank account was. Think about it, do you know what car Bill Gates drives? Do you know how many houses he has or where he has them? Remember, this man is still alive now, and 99% of us don’t even know those things. When your coffin is lowered and your grave sealed, what lives on after you, are the lives you have blessed, the people your coming made a difference to, what you gave, the sacrifices you made and the things you did, that made others say thank you. Where are You?

Where are you? Can you attempt to answer that question? While you are at it, that was the first question that man was ever faced with. The Bible records in the book of Genesis chapter 3 verse 9 : GOD called to the Man: “Where are you?”  I recon that since it is the almighty asking the question, it wasn’t because he didn’t know the answer. Asking however, makes the one being asked to ask him or herself a fundamental question that can help in quick recovery.

I would have thought that the first question that God would have asked man was the question of “who are you?”, “why are you here?” e.t.c. The first question however was not any of these soul searching philosophical questions, the first question was, “where are you?”. Who you are was done and delivered before you were formed, it’s not an answer you cook, it’s an answer you find. It’s the same with why you are here, the answer existed before you were formed in your mother’s womb. Where you are however, is interestingly your doing, and you are answerable to God! God or No God?!

As much as I try to make my writing simple enough to be digested, it seems I’ll still need to try some more. I’ll start tomorrow though, today’s topic is hot, and I won’t want to dilute it with simple words. I discovered that writing the way I write generates a lot of questions in people’s minds, and that’s fine, the pathway to knowledge and wealth is to ask.  Everything you need in this life, is a question away. You don’t have, because you don’t ask. So if you need clarity on anything I write, please ask questions. I am online most of the time, and really willing to answer.

Someone once told me that my blog made him to start reconsidering his philosophy about the existence of God. He was a very cerebral guy, and had thought his way into believing that God didn’t exist and the spiritual was just an extension of the mind, e.t.c. Somehow without my saying anything directly, he had gotten some questions thrown at him that his philosophy could not explain and moved him into the path of working out a relationship with God. In my little journey on the Internet, I have found out, that he is not alone – many young people have had no experience of God, and are on a journey of questioning, testing and experimenting, and trying to find out for themselves if the world banged into existence or if there is a God somewhere. Is there proof that God exists? Do they need their research? Can it bring results? Is there any research that has been done that they can read and leverage on? Continue reading

Try a Little Kindness

If you see your brother standing by the road
With a heavy load from the seeds he sowed
If you see your sister falling by the way just stop and say you’re going the wrong way
You’ve got to try a little kindness just show a little kindness
Shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness you’ll overlook the blindness
Of the narrow minded people on the narrow minded streets

Don’t walk around the down and out lend a helping hand instead of doubt
And the kindness that you show every day will help someone along their way
You’ve got to try a little kindness…
You’ve got to try a little kindness…

I don’t know if you grew up around the same time I did, if you did, the chances are 8/10 that you will have heard this song by Genesis before. Can you remember? That big round “record” with a tooth brush like reader on the player :) Those were the days – the disks were disks, nothing compact about them. Right now I can perfectly picture where the records where kept, I remember this season, and I can hear a few other soundtracks – “Baba ore re ma po, baba, melo la o san”, “Odun nlo so pin o, baba rere”, “Won le ma so so ku so, so ko gbo, Let them say :) ”, “Who the cap fits, let them wear it”, “… e.t.c. All the collections all the sorts. I’m sure some of you can pick yours out from these, but first let’s get down to the business of today. Try a little kindness. Continue reading

Word for 24th September.

This morning I got a buzz from a colleague (Busayo Akanro) showing me the scripture where it talks about the word of God for the 24th day of the ninth month (Sept 24). The word actually read that from today onward, irrespective of where I was coming from, the lord will bless me. I thought I should share the same word with you. Do read it.

I read it to another colleague who was shocked that there was word for today in the bible, and how it so much applied to his life. Do you want to know if it applies to your life? I now took the liberty to go ahead and read what led to the particular verse, and I made a remarkable discovery. Maybe you should read it here.

10On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying, Continue reading

Thank You All!

I have written this post once before now, and somehow the internet misbehaved when I wanted to post it, and I had no back up. Well, the Yoruba’s say that the house of a king that gets burnt only beautifies it. I guess the fact that I have to thank you again, will only make my thanks sound better.

I want to use this opportunity to appreciate everybody that has added value to my life in one way or the other. I want to thank everybody that wished me well in this new phase of my life. For all the text messages, the emails, the facebook walls, gifts, presence, prayer and goodwill e.t.c. I sincerely express my heartfelt gratitude. Thank You.

A wise man once said, that anybody that pauses to understand life will observe that the highest life lived is that spent in the service of others. The best use of money is to use it in blessing another. The best use of talent, of skill or value is in service. Thank you for being so ever supportive. Thanks for making my days and making my years. I appreciate and celebrate you for the years gone buy, and I welcome you with me into the years ahead. Thank you! Continue reading
