MLM vs HYIP – Where I stand

“With the internet explosion, in the future there will be two kinds of people those with networks (downline) and those without” – unknown

“The internet is like a goldmine, you have to dig a lot of crap to get one little nugget” – Unknown

If you have been following the trend of my analysis and thinking, I’m sure you have a perspective of where my votes will fall on this. I however feel the need to let you know why, and hopefully, someone might learn a thing or two.

I have been interested and participated in every MLM program that came into Nigeria since I graduated from University. FLP, Tianshi, CDT, Sapphire, Clubfreedom e.t.c. Some I did by proxy, others I actually got actively involved. MLM is hard work, and it doesn’t get easier even when it’s online. MLMs present one of the best skill development opportunities you will ever get. More about this later. I have also tried my hands on a few HYIPs, it’s all about the money, no learning opportunity. Greed grows, and more often than not, the rewards do not endure. If you reap where you didn’t sow, it also simply means you will sow also at times and not reap.

Permit me to structure these debate on a few key points.

1. Development

The human brain is grossly underutilized, the school system does not provide an avenue to develop all the skills essential to life. Your development is your responsibility. A good MLM will take you through the learning curves, you will not only earn like a director when you become one, you would have learnt. For clubfreedom/6k4you for example, your first role requires marketing and recruiting, your second role involves training and motivation, your third is management, team leadership and communication, your ultimate role involves governance, leadership, direction setting, strategy and leadership development. You learn win-win for real, when you get into the board, your next assignment becomes helping your downlines do the same. You also meets loads of people, and remember, you are who you are 5yrs ago, except for the people you met, and the books you read. For HYIPs there is no learning opportunity. Of course if it’s a high yield business and you are involved, you’ll learn. I was into minning of precious and industrial metals a couple of years back – Tantalite, aquamarine, tomalin and the family. I and a number of friends lost a lot, but because we were directly involved we learnt a lot too. Most HYIPs however, online or in Ibadan are pyramids, the base is stacked to pay the top.

2. Wealth Creation

I clearly remember a LASU student in 2002 (Tope) who came to address us at an FLP seminar I attended then, he was in his part 3 in his university then. I went with a friend of mine who is also a great speaker, we analyzed the seminar and picked holes in the young chaps communication skills, but you can’t argue with results. He has earned over 30Million as that time, he had also traveled to more countries than the number of states I had traveled to back then. He went on to make a lot more money on FLP (He actually married before he finished from school :) ). Till date, he still earns N300,000 on a bad month. He’s into real estate and a number of other interesting businesses. In my 8 weeks of joining clubfreedom, I have cycled out twice and still counting, three of my downlines have also cycled out and are counting, we also currently have over 10 on our team on traveler positions. It’s not all about one person. I’m sure there are people who made a clean sweep with an HYIP as well, I mean, I know people who invested in number of wealth solutions that have gotten paid millions. I know of someone who invested N4,000,000 in the likes of pennywise and cash seed. I only need you to show me one person from the days of umana umana, who got rich then, and is still wealthy today. Don’t get me wrong oh, anything is possible, but for every one you are able to produce, I’ll give you the phone numbers of 10 who lost it all.

3. Health

With most of these HYIPs, any negative information about any of them, rocks the heart. Like, if I tell you that treasureline (wk 24) has started defaulting, and that by implication it means that the days of some other ones are also numbered, won’t it spoil some people’s day? Won’t some people immediately accuse me of trying to promote something else? The treasureline example is true by the way. For MLMs however, if you are not too greedy, it can be fun. I have received calls from many people who suddenly understood how the boards in clubfreedom and the revolving travel tables work, and are having so much fun they don’t sleep some nights. I got my first call around 6am this morning, someone was telling me what I need to do for him so he can break his board this morning. I remember the high days of FLP as well. A merry heart does good like a medicine. Wouldn’t you rather live long and enjoy your life. Health is wealth.

4. Ethics

Now this is a dicey topic, people have different perspectives about ethics. I’ll take a cue from Steven Covey though, and let’s look at true north principles. First what are these HYIPs into? There are a number of investment schemes and programs that do legitimate things, don’t get me wrong. I’ll recommend some legitimate ones without apologies any day. Hazonwao, I know the MD, and I can trust him and his company with my money. I know Wealthzone is also good, I know because I have researched these two. Of late, I’m discovering that Nospetco could last a lot longer than I had anticipated, some dynamics changed recently and they are interesting dynamics. Most of the popular HYIPs promising outrageous returns are simply ponzi schemes. You can read CBN’s definition here. The target of operational week 4 is to raise 100% above the promise made to the people in week 1. Somebody down the line will be badly beaten, and the Yoruba’s say that when we throw stones in the market place, it hits our relatives. For MLMs however, even if you don’t get the mouthwatering returns, you will know that it was because you didn’t give it what it required. You will see people around you, who joined after you and are still making money from the MLMs. Network marketing is less than 55yrs old in the world, it’s a baby, and the world is responding slowly to it. In the future, your network, will be your net worth.

  1. Deolu

Thanks for your insight on a lot of these issues. I have invested in both these “HYIPs” and MLMs. I must say that though i find it hard marketing, i have met people through these MLMs and honestly, i think in the long run they are better. This is just my personal opinion though.

I have also decided to stick to these MLMs as i get more satisfaction and less “headaches!” Mose definitely, These HYIPs are tempting but these days, most banks are throwing these accounts out, i know that for a fact because i have first hand information on this.

I am also of the opinion that though a lot of people cash out and get huge sums like a colleague that got N13 million from Wealth Solution, we all need to stop and think, ask what we stand to lose if what we put in goes up in smoke i.e. the returns from these HYIPs do not come to fruition.

If anyone thinks that they can lose whatever they put in then by all means go ahead. I am not entirely against taking such risks. I have taken the same risks anyways! (lol) I however think its time to relax and make money without too much fear and heartache.

I can be reached on 8521078 for more info.

See you guys when we get there…

  2. I subscribe to a blog matrix watch, i made some reference to the fact that i and two of my downline are now qualified for the main board. please can you answer this: here is what they said about clubfreedom.

Hi Julius without going into massive detail, one of the key difference between an MLM and a Pyramid Sheme is the resale of the product/products involved. A pyramid scheme will always have more emphasis on the recruitment aspect than an MLM would.
Pyramid schemes and MLM’s both suffer the same problem of market saturation and without a viable product to resell there is nothing to stop CF stagnating therefore leaving 90%+ unable to cycle.
Whether a percentage of the cycle funds are reinvested or not there will always be a requirement for more money to come out than goes in for everyone to cycle.
This can be demonstrated by working out the amount of members it takes in CF for one members to cycle. (about 50+) There is always a benefit in getting in early but the way CF works this benefit can be offset by heavy recruiters peddling the scheme more succesfully.

However no matter how good you are at recruiting there will always be someone above you who got in earlier you are assisting.

As this Wholesale Access Certificate (WAC) which costs $150 cannot be resold by members directly for commision, CF by any stretch of the imagination cannot in my opinion be considered as a legal MLM. Thats without taking into consideration that the Voucher access system can be obtained for free.

The introduction (or potential introduction) of Forex trading brings another minefield of potential loss for CF members but it will be interesting to see how a forex sytem is implemented, what leverage is available and what stop loss protection is in place.

what is your response Deolu Akinyemi

  4. Hi Deolu,

Is it true that Banks have stop collecting pay for new entraint into HYIP? A friend call to informed me that her friend went to bank today (14/6/07) and was told that an order from above direct them to stop crediting or debiting all HYIP account with them. I thoght EFCC, SEC other govt agencies have given these fund manager clean bill, and that is what inform there increase or slash on slot.

Kindly furnish me with the latest information.

    Or anybody can help!

  5. @ julius momoh

I wonder what Deolu Akinyemi’s ‘response’ has got to do with this.

I think you should read further down the blog to the more recent posts viz May 07 particularly those of jammielagos who i believe is a foreigner living in Naija. There are always new info on the blog almost daily and you need to keep up. Dont just accept one person’s opinion about anything.

To me, his most pertinent quote is ” …. If you need to invest, invest wisely, if you see clubfreedom as an investment, you are a sore loser…”

As had been reported Deolu and several other people have cycled out of Club Freedom at least once. To me that is the end of the story. I think even common sense shows that not every body will cycle out at the end of the day.

Risk only what you can afford to lose!

    Regards

  6. Hi Deolu,

nice right-up. i just started hearing of HYIPs about 3 weeks ago and MLM even afterwards.
i searched the net for the truth about HYIPs and discovered they’re all illegal. a good percentage of MLM schemes are also illegal but a few are ok and i want to believe that clubfreedom is one of them.
my only challenge however is, nobody has been able to give me any reasonable explanation as to what the funds generated are used for. some say they’re used to secure hotel accommodations and the recompense is what is tranlated into cash. if that is true, is it possible to know the names of some of these hotels? im just curious cos i dont want to build a spiritually faulty financial foundation for myself. cheers!

  7. let me add that another key reason i want to know what the money is used for is that people ask me that a lot whenever i try to market them. i dont have a problem marketing i just need to get the facts right.

  8. i know what they do with th e money ,they use to trade with forex global trading, is a huge profit retune on amount invested.y the trade with dollar.

  9. Due diligence is the word. Use information to your advantage to aid the best of decision you will make.

After i dig into clubfreedom, i found they were a legal entity registered in Hong Kong. About their mode of business which falls into MLM, revolving matrix and the kinds, it is controversial and is not an absolute. If you find it a place to devout your investment, then you must be sharp with your wits

This is what i mean. i join clubfreedom on the 30th of may. i got qualified the following week with my second slot and a direct downline heading their respective feeder board. Yesterday 22 June 2007, i move straight to planner on the main board with two of my downline ready to join me….in less than a month. when my two downlines join me this week on the board, i am sure to cycle out in the next 2weeks!!. – just with 12 downlines!

This above is for those who are yet to decide.

  10. Hey deolu just reading this
i could not agree with you more. I recently got into Clubfreedom and it has redefined the way i see people and i am still learning a lot. My sense of responsibility has deepened tremendously and so has my concept of team work. .I intend to get into some more MLM schemes and give it my best shot. recently i was reading an article co- authored by Robert Kiyosaki and Randy Gage who are both extremely wealthy and both into MLM (Randygage came out of retirement to return to MLM .they both seem to think that MLM is the future of wealth generation..I would consider that its a good pointer and i am pitching at least one tent here.
Thanks so much for doing what you do . I find it extremely refreshing and rewarding going thru your site every time . I am actually reading thru the old posts one after the other and i will keep contributing as much as possible More grace
    See you on top.

  17. dear deolu, i am really really confused about the actual cost of registering someone under me in club freedom. Also, i am really confused about the difference between club freedom and 6k4u.are they both owned by the same company? if so, is the cost of becoming a member cheaper? i paid 33k and everyone of my downline has been paying the same since. Now, i read your article and you’re talking about 24k. please shed some light on this for me. thank you.

  18. pls Deolu i want you to shed more light on these Hazonwao and wealthzone, because have just lost so much money to wealth solution.

  19. I couldn’t understand some parts of this article MLM vs HYIP – Where I stand, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.

  20. this is a good piece. i love the quote about the internet being a gold mine and one has to keep digging up dirts until one gets the gold. very true. many of this wealth doubling companies came out but some turned out to be scam. thaks for the information.
