Leaders Wanted!!

Advert : The First NNC ”Prelaunch Presentation and Matters Arising“ will be holding in Elomaz Hotel (Maryland behind Planet One) at 3pm on Sunday the 2nd of December, 2007.  This first Seminar is Free of Charge as the venue will be taken care of by the Club Managers.  We will however appreciate if all who intend to attend notify us either by commenting here or calling Seun on 08035614101 to book ahead so we can prepare for the exact number of attendees. Agenda includes, the NNC concept, charity projects in December, brainstorming on areas we can add value.

I have a picture in my office that I took in South Africa. It’s a picture with the caption “Wanted” I was dressed like a cowboy with a gun and a ransom of $1,000,000 was put on me. It’s a conversation starter for anyone who comes into my office. I like to think that was my ransom price 2yrs ago, as the value ought to be more than that now…lol.

Some people walk into my office, catch the joke, and ask where I’m wanted so they can provide me, I tell them that I can pay the ransom money if that’s what they want…lol. That’s on a lighter note, what I really want to share today is about Leadership. In every human endeavor, in every establishment, in every corporation or nation, Leaders are wanted! The gap between any country, individual or business and it’s future is leaders! The gap between Nigeria today, and Nigeria tomorrow is Leadership!

Everybody needs to develop him/herself to become a better leader. Leadership has no gender neither is it the exclusive preserve of some, we all can be leaders and the more leaders we have around, the faster our pace and the surer our movement. The best definition of leadership I’ve come to like says, Leadership is the art of transforming intention into action. I just love that definition, as it shows that all must be leaders.

So what skills do leaders need to develop, and how can you become a better leader right there where you are?

1. Envisioning

Great leaders have a knack for seeing the picture of the desired future they intend to create. Things may not go the way they want it today, but they are propelled by a picture that they have seen. It takes deep thinking and foresight to form a vision of possibilities.

2. Enabling

Great leaders know how to enable their followers. To enable means to make resources, finances and skills available to their people to carry out their parts of the assignment. Enabling involves negotiating for what is needed, training, coaching, and making it possible for the vision to be supported.

3. Engaging

Great leaders don’t just stand aloof, they build relationships with their people. They collaborate to get things done. They bridge gaps between them and their people to achieve results. It’s not about them, it’s about their abilities to connect with their team and move the vision forward.

4. Energize

Passion is transmittable. Leaders have the speciality of being able to get this energy to circulate. It’s not strange to feel an air of excitement, shouts or thrills around a leader. Executing the vision is going to require energy, and great leaders exhume this energy. There tirelessness is contagious, and their strenght of purpose pervades the atmosphere.

5. Execute

True leaders are no longer just great at defining how it will be done. They also execute with excellence. Planning, process management, dissintegration of vision into key tasks and engaging with the team to execute is critical to delivery of leadership results. More often than not, the failings of leadership is in execution, but great leaders are learning to execute.

  1. In a trianing that i attanded sumtime ago Fela Durutoye was a spaker who spoke highly of u,he made a piont that it is only right that you put a prize on urself so its only normal man to rate urself to a level. nice one bro as usual, will love to attand the Prelaunch can i have details?

  2. Nice one Chairman,

You always inspire me to write. How I wish we can have (just) 30 people of likeminds like you in this country.

Leadership is not about age or achievement, I believe its all about inner circuit, it’s an inborn, it has to do with mindset. Leadership needs to emanate from within a person, it needs to be authentic.

Well the bottom line is to be clear in one’s communication, to be clear in what you assert, and to be clear in what you show. It’s just to cut one’s own path consequently. It’s the straightness that is the foundation of everything.

That is my own little view about leadership.

You are real and authentic. I enjoy your write up.

  3. Hello Deolu,
You are spot on, another masterpiece on the subject matter. Do you have any published book(s) to ur credit? If yes, would like to lay hands on any. I will be surprised though, if you don’t cos ur write ups seem original/innovative such that even when u quote others, u dont lose ur originality and u still inspire.

    Keep up the good work.

  4. Deolu, What time is the seminar on sunday.

Leadership, leadeing or simply taking a crew towards something invloves movement. It is impossible to lead or have an opinion if you dont believe in something.

Leadership is never void of belief.

  5. My Oga, I quite agree with you, more especially now that young and vibrant people are beginning to manifest leadership qualities they never knew they had.

I believe we are gradually metamorphosing and trainings such as this will do well in shaping us mentally and emotionally for the enormous challenges ahead. The lessons to be learnt I believe will be highly beneficial first to us as potential leaders of today and to the society at large.

Hmmm I see a quiet and peaceful revolution taking place… I am glad to be part of the repairs team. Nigeria will definitely be great again.

I’ll try to be there on Sunday so that we can talk better. But i’m yet to confirm my registration.

“Kudos Deolu” just keep the flag flying.

  9. The glory and the challenges of any endeavour rests on the leader. Show me a success story nad I will show you a successful leader. It can’t be emphasized more that we are in dire need of leaders. Purposeful people that will lead this generation to the next level. Thanks again Deolu, for opening our eyes to this great need, and for reminding us the timeless attributes that we must all strive to develop, who have been called to leadership in one or the other respect. God Bless.

Thanks for this piece above. It is really inspiring.

  12. Hello All,

I look forward to seeing you all. I also suggest that all who plan to be attend should also try to invite with them people of like minds who are not in the club yet. There is rarely anyone who comes for these seminars/meetings that will not join the club except for financial constraints.

Invite the people you want to sponsor, we are striving to add value to a lot of indices at the same time, it however also doesn’t hurt to cycle and be rewarded for supporting the club.

  13. Deolu,

I’m short of words to describe your wealth of ideas. This idea of NNC is a very great one. I cant wait for Sunday the 2nd of December, 2007 to reach.

Deolu/Seun, please enlist me…I’m very much interested.

    God bless!

  14. Thanks for this piece on Leadership.
Yesterday’s punch talked about a top UN guy who lamented that all the growth indices as put out by Government and CBN has not translated to visible improvement in the standard of living of Nigerians.
Sunday Awoniyi the leader of Arewa Consultative Forum,ACF, has just passed on in England where he was flown after sustaining injuries on his way to Kaduna to attend ACF meeting. The roads are even worse than before ,that is after Anenih,a former policeman has spent billions destroying Nigerian roads.

Presently some Governors are in slumber, devoid of ideas as to how to advance their states!

Thank God for NNC,hopefully it will also have some positive political slant which will impact positively on the political landscape.
What of Nepa, many of our youths have never known what regular power means.I was lucky I witnessed days of Electrical Corporation of Nigeria (ECN) when power was fairly regular ante bellum ( before the war) .

Leadershp qualities as enumerated by Deolu must be preached and encouraged to be imbibed at NNC fora.
My people perish for lack of knowledge .Leadership is also about knowledge otherwise known as education which I will like to add to the other 5 ees.

  15. I want to be part of the emerging Nigeria by being a member of NNC. Is there anybody out there who can give me the information on where I can obtain the voucher to pay for my registration.

I am based in Abuja by the way and you can reach me at afuwape2001@yahoo.com or on 08023248096

  17. God did not make a nobody. In my interactions with a cross section of adults, they all confirmed that they all have had great opportunities at one point or the other to forge ahead in life. It is their ability to recognize and capitalize on these opportunities of the past that has brought them this far in life. Some of them however did not recognize those situations and circumstances at that time as opportunities.

This is our opportunity to build our leadership capacity and take our rightful positions.

    Chairman this another masterpeice

  18. Nigeria is really in need of leaders. not sick men who only have thhe time of taking care of their ill health but people who have a sound mind. the leaders of the better Nigeria do not fall from the skies neither are they born but great leaders are made. they rise because of the problems of the land. e.g moses in order to free the isrealites from captivity, Jesus in other to give mankind redemption etc. so i believe that the problems of our land is just a pointer to the champions and leaders that will be made. Nigeria will rise because of us.
