I and a team of my friends and colleagues rushed down from Lagos to Ilorin yesterday night. We got to Ilorin around 7.30pm haven kept about 500 students waiting for over 2hrs. Manchester United was battling it out with Arsenal within a few minutes from our getting there, but the students waited for us to come, and waited again for 3 more hours while I shared some thoughts and strategies with them on how to position themselves in the next few months.
Being in Ilorin and speaking to these crowd of eager youths was fulfilling and exciting for me. By the time we finished, it was 11pm, and we didn’t have so much time to answer questions. I am dedicating this post to them, to fill in their comments, and ask their questions.
A few thoughts have run in my head since last night, I’ve been doing some thinking about what I said and what even I have learnt. I don’t know who is out there that needs to be blessed by these words, I can assure you however that if you practice what you are about to read, you will make history! These are not the things I spoke about, if you want that, buy the tapes
, let the student body make some money
1. Don’t always ask what is in it for you. Do things for FREE.
My trip to Ilorin yesternight was not paid for, I was going to speak to the students free of charge. Free things are free things, but interestingly because nothing is really free in life, it always pays on the long term. When was the last time you added value for free? When was the last time you left your normal programing to do something that nobody paid you for? I’m not talking about doing some shuddy job, I mean doing a good job for free.
2. Lose money!
I had to buy black market fuel, it was a waste and a loss of money in my perspective, but wether we like it or not, we’ll lose money once in a while. Don’t be too uptight, don’t rationalize too much before you make financial decisions. You have managed to spend the last x years of your life with so little savings, even if the savings were high, they have depleted. Don’t ever let the fear of losing make you numb, no matter how many times you have lost. When you become financially free, you will not think too much before you spend what you call too much today, practice
3. Connect with People and Help!
Human beings are like water, we flow around and never stay somewhere forever. The guy that is a student today can be your leader tomorrow. I spent the night in my fathers house, and interestingly he told me that the current governor of the state was his student in his form 2. People move, big changes happen, and the person you helped up today can be instrumental in assisting you in the future.
4. Develop an inner caucus
Speak to the crowds, share with the disciples. No matter how effective you are, you can’t communicate absolutely everything to the crowd, make out a little more time for a few people, and add extra value to them. Don’t talk and go, create an opportunity to mentor a few people.
5. Dont’ Let A Job Rob you of Your Best
Many people are there Jobs and nothing else. It’s rather unfortunate, that what many people spend time praying for, is what takes them out of where they can add value and be a blessing to others. Even at work they are not connecting with their colleagues beyond the scope of work. A job keeps you just over broke and many times keeps you away from being useful to your assignment. What irritates me the most, is when you now don’t even like the Job.
6. Ask
Never underestimate the power of asking. Whenever you are not sure. Ask! Whenever you have any doubt, ask. Don’t invent what another person has invented, ask. It’s not macho not to ask, it’s stupid.
God Bless You.

These are deep words. Thanks for sharing this.
You have chosen the best path…to be a blessing unto others.
God bless you !
very deep words. I like the last point. DOnt invent what has already been invented…..
Thanks
“Speak to the crowds, share with the disciples” am meditating on this, Thanks for your thoughts.
These are critical nuggets for fulfilled living. Welldone!
Deolu,
God will continue to bless u;thanks for your trip. But let me quickly add that the rebranding issue with Dora-i do not know how far we have gone but once again its not worth the hassle attached to it.See the way she is defending the fed.govt over Ekiti crisis;am saddening that she is a politician and not a technocrat that we all taught she is.
Regards
Rasheed
Wonderful food for thought for anyone who want to be relevant in this generation….
Nice one Deolu.I think we need someone like you in this nation of ours. These are the things somelike myself never had an opportunity.I have to learn through a gradual process.
Carry on………God will crown all your effects.
what a way to give back to the system. i think i like the idea of “ask”. it actually takes humility to do that…. but it can actually mean the difference btw stagnancy and movement in life….. God bless
Thanks for your unrelenting efforts to impart into tomorrow’s leaders. God bless you. Surely, there’s a reward!

In other to continue being relevant, one has to learn the attitude of giving. The hand of a giver always remain at the top.As you continue to give your time in other to add value to the world near you,the hand of the Lord will not leave you life bcos he loves a cheerful giver. Thank you for this piece, sir.

Deolu,I just want to say thank you so very much. You are great!
“Cast your bread upon many waters, you shall see it after many days.” When your bread returns, it comes in many pieces, heavier and socked. The greatest investment is into people, particularly those that can’t say thank you. Deolu, thanks for sowing those words into those lives, someday you will walk into the harvest.
Deolu, have spoken again.A word of wisdom from the guru himself. Thanks for the wonderful info.Hmmm always ask question.Deolu be expecting lorry loads of question from me soonest. You too much jooooooooooo.
Try and come to the east chairman and help in human capital development
Chairman, when Steve (FYBSA President) told me about the meeting yesterday evening, I was more than grateful for your commitment to this vision. God is your strength. I think it’s not a bad idea if I let the cat out of the bag; some guys in Ogbomosho are looking forward to you coming over soon. I spoke to them about you and what’ve being doing and some are already hooking up to this site daily looking forward to the next post. One sent me a mail recently thanking me for introducing deoluakinyemi.com and new naija to them. Anyone in Lagos that need the CD of your speaking session at Unilorin can reach me @08037218155. that of course wont be free; let the boys make some money.
Whoever can collaborate to help make Chairman come over to the East (Anambra or Enugu) should reach me at crownworth@yahoo.com or on 08037218155. I and some fellow corp members made effort last year but dropped the idea due to logistics. I’m through with serving in Anambra but some of the guys I recruited to make it happen then are still serving. Let’s synergize, I believe more youths should hear Deaolu speak now!
@ All, Thanks!
@ Kelechi, I want to come to the East, I need people to make it happen.

I’ve heard you speak in Unilorin a number of times and I must say YOU ARE A SPECIAL BLESSING because since listening to you, many things have changed in me for better. Until you came I have always been the “solitary” and unfriendly type but since then I have concsciously made efforts to reach out to people and I must say it’s been rewarding. I had to organize an excursion programme for teenagers in my church and it was to Ibadan (a place I practically did not know myself) so it required me to travel ahead of time to make necessary arrangements (mostly with people I never met) and even get others involved and to the glory of God the programme held yesterday and was a huge SUCCESS. Thank you so much for empowering me to be who I want to be and plus I now know how to package myself and prepare for the opportunity to land me where I want to be.

i cannot afford to remain unproductive after reading all these life changing, head spinning realities.
Chairman u re great!
Million thanks for making out time for us. Your seeds will not fail to germinate. It is on us and it is in us!
It is the most greatest treature that only a prof.like u can give reasonable answer for
In the WORLD.How can we know except you teach us? Now our eyes of understanding are
opened. We can do exploit.we refuse 2 remain idle for hardwork and thorough labour will not 4give us.I m telling u that now we are masters of others. kudo to the tallest man in world.
Believe me, u are truly a solution to this generation and i can see the sky being ur starting point. I was in the first program at the auditorium and its a day i’ll never forget in my life bcos since then, i’ve been able to find answers to those question and things has started changing. I hated myself for not making it to the last program. I hope to see u come back next session. God bless u and ur crew……………(Amen).
Really appeciate your love and sincere passion to make us live to take control of our future. I will be working with a project group soon. I’m challenged to start up and rise up to become active in reasonable activities. Triangular routine system, not any more. Love U sir…
