How I Planned to be Disvirgined!
Everyday, I get one mail, text or call or the other, that helps me know that people value my little contribution, and believe me, it’s encouraging. I don’t want to live a normal life, of grow, marry, give birth and die. I want to add value, to change lives, to bring hope, to bring help, to save, to provide to leave a legacy.
I got this mail forwarded to me by Praise Fowowe on feedback from Sex2Sex conference, and if this was the only mail and feedback from the event, I think the event is well worth it. Trust me, there is no kidding the kind of pressure that is mounted on young people. How the world migrated from a time when it was honorable to be chaste to one where being a virgin is something to be shy of amazes me. The world is on it’s head, man is dysfunctional! But before we get too far in analyzing that, read the reason why this title. It’s here and uncut!

In Pursuit of Immortality
I was at the Sex2Sex conference organized by Praise Fowowe over the weekend, and by all standards it was an exceptional event. Such events ought to have more sponsorship, corporate and government! But thankfully we all didn’t have to wait for the government to do what we knew was right. It’s alright to take responsibility and it should always be something to be proud of! New Nigeria Club was a proud part sponsor of the event.
There were a lot of very interesting things I learnt and discovered at the Sex2Sex conference. For starters, I was able to hear Toyosi Akerele speak for the first time, she is an impressive and very driven young lady. She is the founder and manager of RISE network, and I have no doubt the network is one to watch out for. I also had the opportunity of listening to Tara FelaDurotoye. She spoke after I did, and she was on fire. I was impressed with her depth and her convictions, I was also moved by her style and story. One key thing I discovered, which added up in my mind, was the fact that her husband Fela Durotoye also took exactly the same type of Oath of Sexual purity that I took (for more information, click on the category on sex). I had never heard him speak about it before, neither he me, but it added up nicely. Maybe one day I’ll be able to do a list and we can make it fashionable to be faithful and stay pure. I also listened to Praise Fowowe, his passion was simply contagious as the crowd stood a number of times to agree with him. His message was clear, “you can hold your body, don’t use condom!”. “Don’t use rubber gloves to kill someone and say you didn’t do it.”, “Don’t put out the shares of your private company except you want to take it public, cover your breasts, make your privates, privates”. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to tell you about what I said, I’m sure you can get the tapes for that, but I can share some thoughts with you on what Prof Pat Utomi said during the event, I have captioned it, the pursuit of Immortality. Advertorial: A sex2sex summit will be holding at 9am on Saturday the 20th of September, 2008. It’s going to be the biggest gathering of people taking a stand for their future, Nigeria’s future and their sexuality. Facilitators for these event include, Fela Durotoye, Adeolu Akinyemi, Tara Feladurotoye, Tosan (cakes) Jemide, Toyosi Akerele, Praise Fowowe and Professor Pat Utomi. It will be a good opportunity to have all these people in one spot and have access to all of them. Plan to attend. It’s a New Nigeria Club backed and sponsored event! Our statistics say that by 2020 75Million Nigerians will be living with HIV/AIDS, we can’t afford to pretend to be blind!
Here are some thoughts from the convener, Praise Fowowe
For a long time we have all kept quiet waiting for someone else to be responsible for our responsibility. We looked up to the 1st world countries for aids and we got AIDS in return. Now we need them to help us mop the effect of the virus in Africa.
We all know the truth but try to run away from it. We have forgotten the adage that says if you don’t know where you are going at least you must remember where you are coming from. Where are we coming from Nigerians? (more…)

In my last trip outside the country, I got the opportunity to watch American Gangster. It’s an interesting film for many reasons, it’s also a film that I find a lot of lessons in. I would cronicle a few, in my attempt to share with you what is frontal in my mind this morning.
The story line was that, an American Area Father (Ellsworth “Bumpy” Johnson)and crime boss died, and his driver turned right hand man Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington) took over. Denzel Washington had driven this man for years, been with him for negotiation meetings, been his PA for most of the journey, and had watched and learned. There were quite a number of people in the hierachry ahead of him, but he had been closest to the old man, and had learnt a lot from him. How to handle pressure, how to be patient, how to be decisive, how to negotiate e.t.c. He had learnt the art of business. When the Area Father died, a vacuum was created, the market was going to go unregulated. Leadership became available and there were a number of options. (more…)

Two young men decided to go visit a “Baba” in their quest to make money. They were both in their middle ages and they were dead sick of being poor. Both of them had struggled on various vocations, they have faced shame in family meetings, and pressures from their wives. The last straw that broke the camel’s back in their frustrated desire to get wealthy was the sudden realization that they were old enough to die. Their third person in their triad unannouncedly passed away, and it struck them, that life is short.
They decided to brave the option of making money by consulting a traditionalist, and decided to seek the counsel and craft of “Baba”. When they got to Baba, baba gave them a string of cowries to utter their desires to. The environment was filled with all sorts of artifacts that are typical of Ifa priests. They uttered their desires silently and returned the cowries to Baba. Baba then went ahead to consult the oracles on their plight. He takes his “Opele” (Opele is a string of split big seeds with a face and a back, this represent a binary code with about 65536 verses) in his hands, chants the prayer to Ifa that helps him to see meaning and interpretation from his craft. He chants while moving the Opele back and forth and throws it in front of him. As soon as he throws, he moves touches the seed, looking for the leader seed, trying to see where the binary code starts. He does a quick binary conversion and identifies the verse, he sighs - “Ifa mo roye, ela loro” - Ifa, I understand, it is clear!
Baba recites what he sees, and tells them why they have come. “You have come because of shame, you have come because of pressures, you have come, because you are tired of being poor.” - Baba tells them, as they both nod involuntarily. If Baba can decipher their quest, then he should have a solution. Baba tells them that he is interested in helping them, but first, asks if they are really ready to get wealth. They say they are ready, but he asks again. He asks them if they are willing to do anything to get wealth, at this point, one still retains his motivation, while the other becomes a part of the background to the discussions, nodding sluggishly. Baba then goes ahead to tell them what they would need to do. They would need to capture and have sex with two notorious mad women in their town! One decided to go with it, and the other backed down. When that question is asked today, a few people like you know, but the young man is still in obscurity of some sort. Who is “______________”, please feel free to put your name there? Today, not many people know, you are also in your season of obscurity. We all are climbing the ladder of life, progressing gradually into vantage positions of visibility. Today unknown, tomorrow star bound, but today unknown. Who is “__________”?. In 2005, he made his first entrance to public life, when he was selected as one of Time’s magazines heroes and icons. He was christened “The Tireless Crusader”. He was being rewarded for what he had done, somehow while obscurity as a law enforcement official. He led a noble crusade, a war against the rich and mighty, he didn’t care whose ox was gored. He was Wall Street’s top cop. Ahead of 2005, it’s a name that would have been mentioned without much ado, but not today. His great personality and good work have brought him to limelight, but his unmanaged weakness has made him an object of shame. Eliot Spitzer, resigned his appointment as the Governor of New York today, with his wife by his side. In his words, he would not want to allow his private failings to affect other people’s work. He had gotten into public office with private problems, and what he had not addressed, undressed him of power. He is Eliot Spitzer, now former Governor of New York.

Sex - 103
Someone asked whether we had sufficient on the sex series to cater for the needs of those that have needs for Sex -199. lol. Well, we started a series last week, and there is a concluding part, to the series we started in Sex -102.
In case you are wondering why Sex of all things to talk about, well it’s because there are few things that cut across all human beings. One is finances, another is sex and the various other items that surround them. I remember once listening to a man that said authoritatively that he does not know of anybody dead that was maritally unfaithful and died a peaceful death. Maybe you should check it out as well.
Our society is breaking down, as we continue to equip ourselves with excuses. I felt really touched when I Praise told the story of a primary 3 boy that was caught with a condom in the toilet with a primary 2 girl, when asked the reason for this behavior, he responded quite confidently “Isn’t it on TV that if we can’t hold body, we should use condom?” Shocking, isn’t it? Well, what happens when we don’t plant seeds? Weeds grow. Here is an attempt to take charge and use this opportunity to sow some good seeds. Welcome up stage again today, Praise Fowowe… (more…)

The article you are about to read, are the words of Praise Fowowe, he has already been introduced on this site, and as a function of my belief in his vision as a token of my support for his work, I’m going to be featuring him once a week to regularly on this site.
Sex is a topic that cuts across every level, every race and every tribe. It’s a common ground for the rich and the poor, the sanguine and the phlegmatic, the employee and the entrepreneur. The things that all humans struggle with are the same things, just in different forms. When we come to ourselves, we always feel guilty about doing wrong, but we have grown to rationalize the current way of life, and find some comfort for ourselves in the things we engage in.
If the makers and movers of condom, are not confident to use it to sleep with an AIDS patient, then people must be sick to entrust their lives into their products. If indeed there is no safe sex outside the context of marriage, if indeed premarital sex is rehearsals for infidelity, if indeed sex is a covenant, if indeed it is true that what a man ejaculates into a woman has the capacity of replicating him, if indeed every time a man lies with a woman he hands over to her his strength, his identity and his dignity, then we must learn how to be in control of our sexuality. We long for a New Nigeria where it’s citizens grow to ripe old ages and not as statistics for sexual accidents.
Please join me as we plunge into the experience and thoughts of Praise O Fowowe. (more…)
