The Next Big Thing -National Rebirth

Posted by Adeolu Akinyemi @ November 12th, 2007 | Comments (21)

Patriotism

I have not had much sleep in the last 48hrs, I have been working hard with a few colleagues at arriving as close to perfection as possible on a project many of us are working on. My patriotism and desire for my nation and it’s unique people’s development is undeniable. I decided to venture into a book I wrote over a year ago that still remains unpublished. The title of the book is “10 things you should consider before choosing a career”. I don’t know if it happens to you, but I feel eerie when I read what I wrote long ago, I feel like it wasn’t me… and perhaps it really wasn’t.

One of my objectives for writing that book back then, was to help in Nation building and national rebirth. Today, my heart goes out to Nigeria and I think the thoughts in the book are still as powerful now, as they were when I wrote them. Read the entire clip from the book here. (more…)

Live the Dream!

Posted by Adeolu Akinyemi @ October 1st, 2007 | Comments (49)

I pledge to Nigeria my country
To be faithful, loyal and honest
To serve Nigeria with all my strength
To defend her unity and uphold her
honor and glory
So help me God.

Read that again, and think about it this time.

Today is October 1, and “Live the Dream” was the seminar topic I was given to talk about today in the “dirty green white green” seminar. Today however took off on a fantastic note for me, as my wife and I were blessed with a bouncing baby boy - October 1, 2007 11:14am a bundle of joy was born. Trust me, I am really happy.

Someone once told me that there is thin line between hallucinating and being visionary. That he feels that some of the pronouncements he hears about the future of Nigeria, sounds like hallucinations to him. Is it really possible to have the Nigeria of our dreams, and indeed live our own dreams? Is it attainable or is it a pie in the sky? Will the current challenges facing us as a country ever become a thing of the past? (more…)

Our Envisioned Nigeria

Posted by Adeolu Akinyemi @ September 19th, 2007 | Comments (74)

My recent vacation to Dubai and South Africa were not only eye openers to the opportunities that existed outside our shores, they were also opportunities to see how we as a nation differ from the other countries. It was an opportunity to identify what we have that can move us far, and what we have that currently still stands us ahead.

I have tried to express passionately the visionary leadership that Dubai possesses, I have also tried to describe some the closest things to a man made heaven. From the visions they still have however, the best is even yet to happen. Just two days ago, I got informed that the world project is being sold already. The world project is a man made island patterned after the map of the world, with each continent as an Island. I quipped, that at least if one cannot be president over the real Nigeria, he can at least try to administer the Nigeria Island in the world project. South Africa also was filled with breathtaking sites, and great entertainment parks. I thought I had fun at the Wild Wadi Waterparks in Dubai until I experienced the Anaconda and Golden Heights at the Gold Reef Park. I don’t know what world South Africa is classified as, but I’m certain it’s far beyond our world.

Having seen all these, when I look back home, and see our current state my countenance falls, however when I think deeper and see what we could be, my heart is refreshed, for their is yet hope for Nigeria. Did you ask why? Let me show you what I see. (more…)

The 8th Day of the Week

Posted by Adeolu Akinyemi @ April 12th, 2007 | Comments (19)

Yes you read the title correctly, in some parts of the world there are 8 days in a week. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Public Holiday! In Nigeria here for example tomorrow is going to be the 5th public holiday in April alone. Isn’t that already doing more than being the 8th day of week?

I remember how excited I used to get as a regular employee about public holidays. It was another day to rest from work, it was the replacement of the midterm holidays and long holidays we used to enjoy back in school. For those of us that went to the great university, we had so many strikes and induced breaks that life right now doesn’t seem fair :) But seriously, where are we going with this current holiday? Yaradua Dead! - Is it True?

Posted by Adeolu Akinyemi @ March 7th, 2007 | Comments (13)

Late last year, I wrote a post titled is it true? I asked a number of questions about the political system in Nigeria, the intrigues where mounting then, and now as well. I just got a number of mails this morning, and a text message too, insinuating that the presidential candidate for the lead party had died.

The thoughts that first flashed through my mind, were that I had a dream 3 nights ago, that Pat Utomi became the president of Nigeria, I wasn’t happy when I woke up, as I thought, ah, just a dream. If this is true, what will be done? Who holds sway? Is Babangida going to be used to replace him? Is what BBC saying true? Have you heard? Is this all true? Wow! (more…)

Power is all we need!

Posted by Adeolu Akinyemi @ February 14th, 2007 | Comments (16)

These days we are being assaulted regularly on our TV screens by different politicians making promises they don’t intend to keep. The interesting thing is that we have heard it all before. ” I will repair the roads”, “I will provide jobs for all”, ” The programs of my administration will outrightly obliterate poverty”. “Education for all”. These are all high sounding promises. They score points though, the sway the masses.

I heard that one of the presidential aspirants was addressing the Niger Delta, and promised them that he would start a ministry of Niger Delta, and that the minister of petroleum will always be from the Niger Delta area. He went further to inform them that if they vote for him… the crowd did not allow him to land. The interrupted him, it is not if they vote, it is when they vote :). Promises, promises, promises. As soon as they get into power it all becomes history. The first assignment becomes recouping the investments that brought them into power. (more…)

Is it True?

Posted by Adeolu Akinyemi @ December 13th, 2006 | Comments (42)

Hmmm… I heard some things oh, and I felt maybe I should just confirm oh. Some of them haven’t happened yet oh, but I heard that they are postulations sha. Please help me look at them oh, and let me know if it is true oh. (the ohs are deliberate oh)

I am not so much for political calculations, but from what i’m hearing it seems we’ll be in for real surprises in the elections next year. I’m a very optimistic fellow, and believe too much in the future of our great country. In case you don’t, you can check out the list of websites underneath this article and get excited at the generation that is lurking in virtual obscurity, waiting for the batton to be passed. If you read deep into their words and thoughts, you’ll see hope written in capital letters for Nigeria.

Yes, more to what I have been hearing. Gbeborun… you should continue from here oh.. (more…)

Even if the elections were fair.

Posted by Adeolu Akinyemi @ December 6th, 2006 | Comments (17)

Yesterday, I decided to go to work at whatever time I would have registered myself as a voter for the upcoming elections. I went to the registeration spot (iyanfoworogi :)) that I heard had come to my area on Sunday, determined to make my vote and voice count. On getting there, we ( I went with two other people that were old enough to vote in my house) discovered that we could write our names somewhere and come back just in time. We followed all the laid down protocols, but what I saw in this registeration place was scary. (more…)

How not to Sacrifice the Future

Posted by Adeolu Akinyemi @ December 3rd, 2006 | Comments (14)

Pat Utomi

I just read an article written by one of my mentors - A presidential speech. I was very impressed, at the intelligence behind the putting together of the words, As I read, my heart blessed Nigeria, we have talented men, we are indeed a blessed Nation. As I read, I thought about our country, I seperated the ideal from the real, and wondered if we as a nation will give a chance to change? I wondered if the military will ever allow a civilian to be commander in chief of the armed forces. I wondered if we were free as citizens of this nation. I also wondered why this man was risking his life, I wondered why volounteering to help could be suicidal. I wondered… (more…)

Do you believe in Nigeria?

Posted by Adeolu Akinyemi @ November 17th, 2006 | Comments (12)

Go and write it down somewhere, 15-20yrs from now, Nigeria will be one of the most desired countries in the world. The Nigerian VISA will be more priced and more scarce than that of Dubai. People will literally kill to visit, and people will smile and get excited about you, when they hear that you are a Nigerian. What Nigeria will be is not like anything that presently exists. The men and women, boys and girls who will be remembered for their parts in this struggle of selflessness are the ones I urge to cast their votes for a New Nigeria here. Don’t join the bandwagon, think about it, and say YES!!! Say yes to a New Nigeria, say YES to the Nigeria of our dreams. It is a struggle that will require sacrifice, patience, strategy, persistence, courage and strong desires. But we will make it! Not can, WILL. And I, Adeolu Akinyemi together with You will be part of the success story of the New Nigeria.

This is a clarion call to all those who believe that something good can still come out of Nigeria. That we can team up with our little drops and make a mighty ocean. That together we can raise a force of African Role Models, that have the capacity to cause change in Nigeria and Africa at large. Just recently, I was reading the blog of a friend, and I saw prophecies/perspectives from a guy about further doom for Nigeria, and I wondered…it is true that the only thing that good needs to do for evil to prosper is not shine. Silence is the crime of good. Let me remind you, no matter how comfortable you feel as second class citizens in another mans land, home will forever be more appealing if things are done right.
