A Book Can Change your Story

I have learnt a lot in the last almost 4yrs as an entrepreneur, I thought I was knowledgeable, and maybe I was, but the words, “see thou a man that is wise in his own eyes, there is more hope for a fool than him” – make more sense to me by the day. When you begin to know, you realize that the more you know, the more there is to know.  Real knowledge is a by product of the experience of others. The gap between hypothesis and theory is bridged by experience – repeated experiments. He who would be knowledgeable must be willing to either learn from a lab mice, or be one. I daresay, better is the grace of  humility to learn from the lab rat, than the grace of courage to be one yourself.  The complete life however, must balance these means.
About 3yrs ago, I was quite broke – broke as N40,000 could be what 9 of us shared in a month. I was doing everything I knew to do to keep afloat.  I had a team of guys working with me then as well as volunteers, and it was getting difficult to manage things and keep everybody together. We had sent out lots of proposals, were engaged in different small projects, but not so many results. Somewhere along the line, I stumbled on this book, that we are reading till this year ends. I decided not to read it alone, but to do a group effort with all my colleagues. It was just 3 days ago, that it dawned on me fully that it was less than 3 months from when we started the group reading, that a series of opportunities began to flood us all.  We have never attributed the deluge to the book we had read that had tuned us to thinking and acting in a certain way. I thought it was serendipity, but I guess it was actually a science. The ride to wealth and fame was stalled only when we left the creative mind frame and became competitive. I have resumed reading this book again, this time not with 9 people, but with 175 people so far on my database who sent me an email, and I forwarded the book to them. In case you are thinking of joining us, here are some things we have learnt in the last 4 days.

“Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more” – Anthony Robbins.

I have been extremely busy in the last few days, travel, meeting, e.t.c. I’ve been unable to sit down and craft out the thoughts of my heart. I have many pending things to say, and as I write this morning, my heart is being tugged into many directions. I hope I’m able to withstand the temptation of writing 3 articles within the next 2 days J.

I read a story sometime ago, about a young lad who was caught by the police for snatching a wallet with less than $10. He was caught, kept in custody for a while and  later arraigned before a juvenile court. When the judge asked him weeks later, why he had stolen the wallet, the young lad replied, “because the world owes me a living”. Apparently he had grown to buy the philosophy freely expressed in his environment. That we did not ask to be in this world, and hence the world owes us a living. Of course if you live in the west, it probably is easier to develop this mind frame, even the way the governments operate, it’s easy for the people to feel they are entitled to somethings. Interestingly however, we who live in the side of the world where our government makes it clear that we are not entitled to anything, still live like we are. We waste our time and energies demanding and hoping for entitlements! Continue Reading »

The Greatest Game

I’m sure this will create different answers in different minds. Is there a game that can be classified as the greatest? Is it football, hockey, golf, cricket or basket ball? Or is it one of those not too popular games that has been discovered to have the capacity to excite and fascinate us the most? Which is the greatest game on earth, and what are the parameters that make it so? Do we measure by the thrills? The population of the world actively engaged in the game or it’s process? The degree by which our lives are affected by them or do we use statistics from opinion polls?

Whatever it is that we chose to use however, certain facts are undeniable. Football is a game that has the capacity to literally arrest a great percentage of the world in front of their television sets. More people in the world play golf and football more than any game. The thrill and the followership of basketball in America and increasingly globally is on the increase. The fanatic support of teams, of stars and of championships is tending towards idolatory. The games have become a rallying point of our social lives, we spend days watching, spend hours talking, minutes updating the scores and seconds rejoicing. These games are great, but none of them qualifies as the greatest game in the world. Continue Reading »

The Why of Wealth

There are days (a lot of days these days) when I lie down and ask myself what is really the most important thing in life. What really is worth one’s energies? Is it pleasure? Money? Impact? Wisdom? “ki la n le gan gan?” I have analysed it from a philosophical point of view, I have read the views of Aristotle – who rationalized from the need for pleasure, the desire for glory and the search for knowledge. Aristotle came to a point where according to him, the most important thing in life is the contemplative life. In the Nichomachean Ethics, Aristotle analyzes the quest of all life falls on the planes of a search for pleasurable, political or contemplative. He analyzes that all life is lived for some higher purpose, he analyzes that we all pursue happiness, and the talk goes on asking about what truly brings happiness. I would never do justice to his book in one paragraph, if you are interested, you can get more thoughts on this here, trust me though, it’s not going to be an easy read for the average mind.

I have also studied the bible extensively about the answer to the same question-”What truely is the purpose of life?” What are we here to do, and what will bring the highest fulfillment. I read the thoughts of the experiential and experimental biblical philosopher in Bible – The King in Ecclestiastes. After living a life where he pursues all that man can pursue to gain happiness – women, wisdom, fame, projects, e.t.c. He came to a final conclusion that the whole purpose of man is to fear God and obey his commandments. In my own thoughts, I have come to find out as well, that the highest priority a man can pursue meaningfully on this earth is to serve God’s purpose and desire. This purpose differs from individual to individual, but in the final analysis, life is measured against a standard, and that standard is the original intention in the mind of God for that individual. Prophetic Declarations 2009

I’m in the middle of gaining clarity for the year ahead, already however, I have clear pictures of what the new year holds. The first few weeks of this month have been very remarkable for me, I have had to attend a convention, where I spoke and where I also listened. The whole Ilorin experience was capped for me by Rev. George Adegboye praying for me. As the words of those prayers and prophetic declarations were pronounced, I really wished I had a tape recorder to capture all the wordings. It wasn’t an havazard prayer, it was very specific and in a particular direction. From that prayer alone, I could see what the new year was going to birth.

Maybe you have been in meetings lately as well, where you have been told specific things about what will happen to you in the new year. Or maybe you’ve just been by yourself praying and worshiping God when you heard his voice -”my daughter, my daughter, or my son, my son”. I’m sure you also heard some great things before this year, 2008 started. I’m sure also that some of these declarations did not come to pass. You know why they didn’t come to pass this year? Do you want to know what can make the declaration of this year come to pass or not next year? Read on Continue Reading »

You are on my mind

I’m currently away from Lagos, I have been for the past 3 days. I’m in Ilorin, speaking at the international convention of Rhemma Chapel International for 5 days. It’s a great opportunity for me to be a blessing to about 5000 people in the town where I grew up, it’s also an opportunity to minister side by side a man that I love and respect – Rev George Adegboye (the living and walking Bible and concordance). It’s also been an opportunity to see Fela Durotoye Preach in a church environment, and most importantly a time to spend some time with my parents. It’s however been difficult for me to access the internet as regularly as I want to. I have been itching to connect, and to express, but even now, what I have is little time. What I like you to know, is that you are on my mind, and I’m missing you, all of you.

My mandate here in Ilorin is to bring financial empowerement and enlightenment to Ilorin. I have a God given assignment to raise kingdom financiers, people who will be so rich and so blessed, that the work of God will always be supported anywhere they are. In case you are wondering what the work of God is, it’s simple – the work of God is salvation for the lost, comfort for the broken hearted, good news to the poor, release for prisoners, e.t.c. Staying Up in a Down World

Job 22:29  When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.

Global Meltdown, Financial Crash, Fall, have you heard those words lately? If you haven’t then it means you have not been watching the news or reading the daillies. It is very clear, “men are cast down”. Many have lost a lot of money, many have lost relationships, many their jobs and and many have lost their lives. It’s not affecting individuals only, gigantic corporations have liquidated, even countries have declared bankrupcy. Men are cast down!

In the midst of these stormy dissasters that have hit “men” – humanity, nations, corporations, individuals, what is the recommended strategy for staying up? What activities must we participate in at these times, to make our fates different from that which bedevils the world?

The strategy is simple, and very straight forward. In that one sentence above, I’m going to share with you a few practical strategies for rising above these times, but first let me share a story I learnt 13yrs ago with you. Continue Reading »

Secret Fomular to Getting Lucky

The first question ought to be, what is luck, does it exist? If it doesn’t, then what are we talking about? If it does, then how can we be lucky? Is there really a secret fomular for luck?

All these, reminds me of an occurence that happened lately, I had an opportunity to relay it with a team of people in the UK last week, and it dawned on me that it really was an interesting occurrence. We had BIT (Billionaires in Training) in Lagos Nigeria and after the event, we had our normal recap. For those who do not know, the major highlight of the BIT is an opportunity for people to network, play a fun game of Cashflow 101, do an extensive recap of the learnings from the game and share real life opportunities we can all partake of to make it out of the rat race. It’s usually an exciting time, and an opportunity to meet new people.

In this particular BIT, we were doing the recap and someone noted that he observed that in the game as in life, there was a lot of luck involved. He mentioned that he noticed that a particular couple were very lucky. They seemed to get the right opportunities, throw the right scores, they definitely had luck.

When it was the lucky couples turn to respond, the answer was shocking and interesting ;) Continue Reading »

How to Make God Your Enemy.

I wrote down this topic 5hrs ago, and looking at it again just before writing, it seems a bit strange. Why will someone want to make God his enemy? Even if you don’t believe in God, or believe that he exists, I doubt if you’ll want him as an enemy. Would you? I wouldn’t want to too, but there are many of us who in many ways, set out to make God our enemy. Or literally set up ourselves to force God’s hands to move against us.

First of all, I’ll like to make it clear that I’m not interested in looking at this topic from a different philosophical angles. I don’t intend to waste time on the existence of God or His absence. Neither do I want to attribute the Universe to unidentified forces. I am certain and convinced, that there is a God in heaven, and he rules and reigns in the affairs of men. I believe that this God is a loving God, who made humanity in his image and cares about what he created us to accomplish. This God however is also a principled God, who does not act on whims and emotions, but based on clearly explainable principles. In the words of Albert Einstein – God doesn’t throw dice! He has ways, they are only above our ways.

There are quite a number of ways to make God your enemy, in fact, I doubt if they are exhaustive. I’m going to be share the ones that have been revealed to me, and hope that you will work to make God your friend, and not your enemy. Continue Reading »

The Creative Process

For the last 4 weeks, I have been listening intently to the Secret, and searching for further understanding so I can build my life into a magnetic force strong enough to attract the things I desire towards me. I have been keen in understanding the creative process. How do we ensure that what we want becomes reality? How do we create from the invisible to the visible. I am not writing about creativity or creative thinking, I’m writing about the Creative Process. The process involved in manifesting intentions. Let’s say for example I want to own and drive a Range Rover Sport HSE as soon as possible, and I don’t want to spend any of the money I have today. Is there a process with which I can cause this to happen? My study says yes, and there is a sure fire way to make it happen. Continue Reading »
