The Songs that Influenced Me -1

There is nothing in the world so much like prayer as music is.  ~William P. Merrill

Men profess to be lovers of music, but for the most part they give no evidence in their opinions and lives that they have heard it.  ~Henry David Thoreau

Music is powerful, and I guess by writing this, I’m going contrary to what Henry David Thoreau said about men not giving evidence in my opinion and life that I have heard it. I don’t know about you, but some songs have had such a strong influence on me, that I can write the story of my life, by mentioning the songs that were heavy on my heart at those times.

I remember a joke we used to share back then in our university days, about the emotional life of an average unprincipled fresh girl in university. It starts at home after her final exams… the predominant song in heart then is “I’ll see you when you get there… if you ever get there”. As soon as she enters part one, there is what they called “October Rush”, you seem to be the rave of the moment, with different guys dotting over you, there seems to be so much pressure on you and within your first semester your song is “Let’s wait a while…”, by second semester, you have caved in to pressure… and it’s “Last night… I saw the moon…”. My Most Untold Secret

I’m currently very far away from home, so I have the privilege of doing this without my wife being able to see me and influence me against this…lol

Someone actually called me to congratulate me and stylishly inquire if my wife traveled with me to Dubai in my visit a little over a month ago, as far as he was concerned, the news of the delivery proved him right that I went alone. Well I didn’t, she was there with me, in Dubai, South Africa, and everywhere but silently behind the scene.

Maybe if I was at home writing this, a little flavor of flattery could score me some points, but I’m too far away for it to matter, so read what I’m about to say carefully, it’s the truth and it might indeed bless your life.

My very close friends have come to know something about me, that most of my ardent readers don’t. If you think I am a great guy, a wonderful person, a promising young man or anything close to an Angel, if you think well of me, even if slightly, then I must let you know this – After God, I owe most of it to my wife. She is a pillar of strength and reassurance. As the most influential human in my life, I have gotten so far, because she has made my life so uncomplicated. In case you are wondering how this young lady I saw 17yrs ago, asked to marry me 10yrs ago and finally led to the altar 4yrs ago has moved me forward… read on… :) Continue reading

Recap-Follow Your Passion

“Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

The past few weeks have been really hectic for me, I have been able to continue writing at a huge price – I have to! It’s also been exciting though, I have been doing the things that I love, and loving the things that I do. I believe if we all dare to pursue our unique purpose, our actions, mere as they might seem, have the capacity to liberate others. In this post, I’ll try and detail the key things that have grabbed my attention and time in the last few weeks.

Team Building – MTN Team.

On the 15th and 16th of June, we (Generis Solutions) had a Team Building session at Lekki Peninsular Resort with one of the most interesting Teams I have had the joy of facilitating Team Effectiveness with. In those two days we all (facilitators and participants) had a fantastic time. Continue reading

March Summary

Effective from today, I’ll be doing monthly summaries. This will help people that just started browsing this site to know what has happened in the past. It will give brief highlights of particular posts, reports on competitions that are on, recognition to people who were very helpful in the course of the month, and general site statistics.

I think in the future, I’ll need to announce that competitions will close at 8pm, because some of the participants in this months competition kept making comments until midnight.

The list indicating the position of things as at midnight are as follows Continue reading

Deoluakinyemi is One!

Can you remember those younger day birthdays? Where you stand in front of your cake and take a number of pictures? In some of those parties if your parents are really boxed up they hand out memento’s – complimentary gifts to keep the memory of the day alive. On those gifts you have captions like this- deoluakinyemi is one!

I remember one birthday like that, I went for in my younger days, the caption on the birthday was “Gidayat is 10″, it’ was a party that rocked. The father of the girl, apparently the owner of Fototech, practically asked a few coca cola and 7 up trucks to give the day full coverage. Wherever you went around the alley, there were sufficient drinks and chops for every one. Back in those days, dancing competitions were the order of the day. If you couldn’t dance or better still get a conversation going with a girl, you were not happening. “Gidayat is 10″, I laugh when I remember. Enough about Gidayat though, today it’s deoluakinyemi is one, and watch out for the coca cola trucks :) Continue reading

Team Effectiveness Workshop!

Hello all, sorry if you have noticed I wasn’t posting everyday like I normally would. For the last one week plus, this topic had been the most dominant topic in my mind. We had a training scheduled with one of the most prominent departments in one of Nigeria’s leading telecommunication companies, it had to be right. I have been so busy trying to ensure that our standards were right that I have not had time to update you on goings-on.

The event finally took place, we had the Team Effectiveness Workshop on Thursday and Friday at IITA, Ibadan. All the participants as well as the facilitators were lodged at the hotel, arguably one of the most decent, natural and serene in Nigeria (I haven’t been paid to sing their praises, so let me take it easy). The workshop commenced on Thursday afternoon, we continued till some minutes to ten and started again 8am the next morning till after 4pm. From the comments(both written and verbal) from the participants, we had delivered exceptional value. I personally felt very honoured, when one of the Nigerians I respected and had looked forward to seeing, shook my hands after the training and told me that the whole exercise had been a job well done. Wow! Continue reading
