Nigeria Bloggers Conference

The BIT Session and NNC Launch in the UK went well. It was refreshing to see people outside the shores of Nigeria benefiting from what is going on back home – we had fun, laughed out loudly, and shared wealth creating opportunities that are currently open to NNC members. Being in the UK has also provided it’s own set of learning opportunities, I’m getting to better understand the system here – transport and financial. How things work, what works, what doesn’t, and the best ways to make the most of this environment. Having said that, I’ll be coming back to the UK for another BIT session on the 27th of September, 2008. And thought the first was good, the second is going to be better!

While I was in the airport in Nigeria, I got a brainwave I have been nursing since then. With every passing day, the idea has developed a little more flesh and a little more flesh. Right now, I believe I have a great idea, that will put smiles on the faces of thousands of Nigerians, and the Nation at large. The idea is hot and sizzling, and you can’t afford not to be part of the first set of people to hear it. One thing I can guarantee though is that no one present for this meeting will regret it, in fact, many will be forever grateful they made the date. Continue reading

P.A.T.R.I.O.T.I.C

One of the core things that the New Nigeria Club seeks to address is the question of identity. Not just image, but identity. In this classification, image is how you are perceived while perception is how you see yourself. True sustainable image is one that is projected directly from one’s sense of personal identity. If what I am projecting as who I am is not who I really am, it’s only a matter of time before all my projections break down.

There was a question I was asked yesterday, I’ll like to ask you too. What makes someone a Nigerian. What is our unique selling point? What differentiates us, for what course are we willing to die. Who is a Nigerian? What are our values? What do we believe in? What binds us together? For the Americans it’s easy, it’s freedom. The free spirit has been branded the American spirit. Many American’s have died for Freedom, they have a statue of Liberty that is a National Icon, they believe in freedom of speech, of e.t.c. America is synonymous to freedom! When you think Singapore, you think cleanliness. They are so crazy about keeping the town beautiful and clean that they go to almost any length. As far as ensuring their citizens or visitors don’t chew gum, for fear they might not find where to stick it :) . For Germany it’s commitment, e.t.c. There are some other countries like these, some known for fashion, some known for machines, some known for their technology, some for their piracy e.t.c. What is Nigeria known for, what what makes us Nigerian, and what should it rather be? Continue reading

Please Let’s Collaborate

I have always been a strong proponent of the power of unity. I believed that the implication of the fact that if one could chase 1000 and then 2 will put 10,000 to flight means that there is power in synergy. In fact, I analyzed and showed people that any one who stood alone when he could collaborate with someone else, was wasting a lot of potentials. Can you imagine how much of 10,000 is lost when two people decide to go separately? If you calculated it, it’s 8,000, that’s a huge percentage of possibilities lost out of lack of collaboration. Just for clarity, here is the equation. 1 will chase 1000, this means that two independent 1′s will chase 2,000, as opposed to the 10,000 they could have chased this is a loss of 8,000 or 80%.

I however discovered a slight modification of this calculation today! I discovered to my utter surprise, that it is not normal for one to chase a thousand. When one chases 1000, it is because the almighty God is involved. That equation is an equation that is only in force when God is involved. One will normally chase a few,  but one with God is majority! Sometimes we underestimate the power of God in our lives, we forget, and we think we are where we are because of our attitude, skill and knowledge. Well A.S.K. (Attitude, Skill and Knowledge) helps but God is irreplaceable and key! So in this call for collaboration, I call on God almighty without whom life would not be worth living, and I call on you too, my ever supportive friends. I have developed something, and I need your collaboration for it to succeed. Continue reading

Happy New Nigeria – Jan 1, 2008

Someone called me today, and said…”Deolu, pele, you must be over over busy, I can see you have not updated your site in quite a while”, the reality is, I have been extremely busy, but busy doing good things and we have had a lot of good news in the past few days.

Before I feed you with the details of the good news, let me use this opportunity to invite all my friends and visitors on www.deoluakinyemi.com to the official launch of New Naija Club, aka New Nigeria Club, on the 1st of January, 2008; 3:00pm-5:00pm at the Ballmoral Hall, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja Lagos. This is an opportunity for you, not only to start out your new year on a powerful note, but to be part of a great new beginning for Nigeria. The New Nigeria Club has been in it’s prelaunch phase for 4 weeks now, and the response has been phenomenal. It has left people wondering what else is there to launch as they feel it’s launched already. But you just make yourself available on the 1st of January, and it will become quite clear to you, that we haven’t started at all.

Key features of the January 1 event include short bursts about the New Nigeria by Prof Pat Utomi, Niyi Adesanya, Fela Durotoye, Gbenga Sesan, Rev (Mrs) George, and my humble self (Adeolu Akinyemi). It’s also featuring Sound Sultan, and some budding musical artists. Based on agreements to partnership we have secured with law enforcement agents, we’ll be having short talks from representatives of EFCC and the Nigeria Police Force. Come January 1, we’ll also be unveiling the mega bank, that has entered into big time partnership with the New Nigeria Club. As I write, we are also concluding negotiations on getting representations from the Federal Government, Ministry of Youth and Sport and National Orientation Agency and the Lagos State Government. The New Nigeria Story – 2

In the bridge between wondering, dream or envisioning and the actualization of any dream, there are people and systems. In this particular story, I’ll like to write a little about the people and perhaps if space permits the systems that were and are critical to the process of achieving the New Nigeria Dream.

The picture sounds very close to perfect at the end, but it wasn’t always that clear. The inputs of people have added a lot to what now is, and would yet add more to what will be.

Initially it sounded like a joke, but gradually it took shape. The first set of people to buy into the possibilities and own it are the Generis Folks. Their thoughts and inputs into this entire structure has been phenomenal. There are days when business is like war, at those times, you need to face the fight without retreat or looking behind. Any slight glimpse at the back, or thought of it can cause your downfall, you must progress confidently forward knowing that the spears, swords and guns behind you are for you and not against you. These are men and women whose willingness to work for free was not only verbally requested, but was tested. Whenever I think of them, I remember David’s mighty men – Not people classified as much by society, but their presence with David in his hour of desperation and need, qualified them to be Isreals generals.
