How to Expand Your Business

This was the topic of my presentation to an exciting group of entrepreneurs earlier today. Think about this topic and the things I shared with them, I realize this information would be useful to a lot of people. Some of those people are reading this directly, and some others need to refer people to this link so that they can come and read as well. In the next few days, I have a few “How to’s” in my mind to share. These are really easy things that if you know and practice can make a lot of difference in your business and in your life.

The first ground rule however, if you truly want to learn, is to first empty your cup. You will not learn anything new, if you assume you already know. Knowledge or the assumption of it, is the greatest hindrance to more knowledge. As teacher students – the most excellent type of student, the one that listens to become a teacher, we must constantly humble ourselves and learn. We must not let knowledge puff  us up and make us resistant to new information. The day the seal of knowledge locks our ears, is the day we become useless and irrelevant to new possibilities around us. 20yrs experience as an employee does not equate to years of experience running a business. Sometimes the way up, is down. Never let any level of knowledge rob you of what you don’t know. There is no fool, like an old fool. Once you have laid aside your prejudices, let’s delve into how you can expand your business. Continue Reading »

Staying Relevant in the 21st Century

The last few weeks have been hectic for me. So hectic, I have not been able to do that which I love – write! In these weeks however I have met with hundreds of people, in an audience and in close range, and the more I engage with people, the more I realize that the world has changed. (I promised a young lady that I’ll mention her… her surname is Bello – remind me pls :) )Just less than a century ago, the world ran without light bulbs, without TV and without the computer. Imagine a world without these things, yet men and women faired well. Interestingly however a lot of work had gone on in the close of the 19th century that birthed these things in the wake of 20th century. The tools changed and the old way of doing things became obsolete. In the same way, a lot of new things started to pop up in the close of the 20th century, some of these things are already taking roots in the 21st Century and except you and I are well equipped, we are about to become obsolete.
Different times call for different skills. I won’t mince words with you, if you don’t upgrade, you will gradually degrade. In this new day and age, stagnancy is redundancy, stationary is backward! If you are not moving forward, you are moving backward, the middle ground is losing it’s relevance, you are either action prone or you might not even be worthy of being called a spectator. I hope for your own sake that you do not wait for 10yrs from now to make meaning out of what I’m writing to you. It is crucial that you embrace new skills or you’ll be the gateman or nightwatch man of the next generation. Trust me, it doens’t matter how much money you have in your account today, like Warren Buffet said -”It’s all on paper”.
You want to be relevant and make impact in this generation? The following are assets you must have.
1. Communication Skills
Learn how to talk, how to write and very importantly how to listen! These have always been important skills, but their value in this emerging world economy is going to be unbelievable. It doesn’t matter if it’s to one or to a crowd, your speech must envoke respect, your letters motivate action and your attention captivating! Learn to communicate exceptionally well. Go for courses, study others, read books, develop your ability to say the same thing in the best way, and to hear what others miss. Evaluate yourself as fair, that way you can gun for better and best.
Can you talk to another person? Can you speak to a crowd? Can you sustain your thoughts in front of an audience? Do you fidget or get scattered when talking to others? Do you have a good attention span?
2. A Rich Network
Learn to cultivate and build a network. Today, life is not about what you know, or who you know. It’s about what you know, who you know, who knows you and for what? Who you know is meaningless if you can’t leverage on the relationship. Successful people in this age will be people who have a rich network. Rich is big, rich is great relationships, rich is useful networks. Friends are like clothes, when you are down to nothing they keep you looking great, ane when you are up to something, they give you presence. This is the generation that kills the lone ranger and murders it’s stars. Your relevance is not in how better than everybody else you are, it’s a function of how much you have invested in bringing others up to where you are. It’s easy to break a broom stick but difficult to bend a bunch. Exist in strong clusters, and stay alive and relevant.
Do you belong to any society? Do you have a network of people that are different from you? If you suddenly need a bailout do you have people who can come to your rescue? Do you need loans from friends or strangers?
3. Internet Leverage
The point and click technology was invented in 1993. Prior to this time, only geeks could browse the internet. It was strictly a command prompt concept and you needed to be almost a programmer to access the world wide web. With point and click, the internet was partially democratized. Today, the usage is growing exponentially. If you don’t have a footprint on the internet, you will be irrelevant and forgotten in a few years. I’m not talking about merely having an email address or a facebook account. I’m saying have presence, learn the many tools that afford you the opportunity to leverage on the internet. The age of small kiosk in the middle of nowhere is fast phasing out, get online and get relevant! People that have a few more years to live are leveraging on the internet, I pity young people without a clue.
Do you have a website? How many friends do you have on facebook? When I search your name on google how many results do I get? Is there anything else I can search for to find you? What is your address on earth? What is your address on the internet?
4. Investments in People
When something becomes a mere cliche it robs us of the true value of the meanings. Phrases like “people are our greatest assets” are so often said that people seldom pause to take in the realities, at least for this century. Mark my words, everything people are investing in will crumble and ultimately fall. Real Estate prices will crash, stock prices will further plummet, businesses will run down, and intellectual property will face lawsuits. The only thing that will appreciate is the value of the investments you have made in people! There are strong spiritual undertones running beneath the current of my words, you can go into the scriptures to search them out, but believe it, the only investment that always pays is that made in people. When you give to the poor, you lend to God! When you empower another, your reward is not bound by the earth, it transcends this realm. Are you making investments in people?
Are you anybody’s mentor? Is someone blessing God they met you? Or are you too busy taking care of yourself? Does your plan include anyone else? Is one day in a school in 4 months enough? Are you making anybody? Or are you simply focused on your own career path? Don’t be a rich fool!
5. Influence
I’ve said this before, I’m writing it again, everybody sells something. Either an opinion, themselves, products or services. If you can’t generate leads and convert them, you are going to be at the bottom of the food chain in this century. Develop your ability to sell, to convince or influence another. Influence is a powerful concept, like fire and many powerful things, it can be used morally or ammorally. Influence is a necessary asset for this day and age.
Are you influencial? Does your opinion count to any others? Do you have an opinion? Are you pushing your opinion? Or are you dead silent?
6. Self Development
It has been said that they key to the 21st century would be the ability to learn, unlearn and relearn. You want to succeed in this century, you must develop yourself. The centre for learning and development has moved however, it has moved away from the physical schools as we once knew it. Learning takes place not when the teacher stands, but when the student is ready. The drive of learning in this century is you and I, the students. We must learn by reading, we must learn from wise people, we must learn from the experiences of others, and by all means we must learn by our own experiences. I tell people, when you try, you fail, when you fail, you learn, when you learn, you ultimately succeed! Failure is the grandparent of success, learning it’s mother, and trying the great grand parent. It has been said that readers are leaders, I beg to slightly disagree, readers could be historians, but leaders and definitely readers!
What is your philosophy and what informs it? What is your paradigm on society, or religion, on finance, on politics or have you allowed your schooling to tamper with your education? This is an age where slowness is determined by how long it takes you to understand. Do you analyze and theorize or do you get your hands dirtied and your nose bloodied in the gathering of knowledge and experience. In the partway of knowledge there are no regrets, only lessons, are you learning for real, or are you still holding on to what your teacher told you? When you were 18, you wanted to be a Dr. Now you are are a Doctor and are 30, shoudl you continue to let the 18yr old dictate the life of the 30yr old, or should you look at your life in fresh light?

The last few weeks have been hectic for me. So hectic, I have not been able to do that which I love – write! In these weeks however I have met with hundreds of people, in an audience and in close range, and the more I engage with people, the more I realize that the world has changed. MLM Education -001

Advertorial: Everymorning Monday to Friday 7:45-7:50am Eko FM 89.75, please join Deolu Akinyemi on behalf on New Nigeria Club for “The Patriotic Nigerian!” All NNC please check on the website for regular updates coming soon.

I have come to discover that there is a lot that people do not know about Multi Level Marketing in Nigeria, and believe it or not, there are some things beginning to happen that indicate that those who have profited or lost but understand the systems are about to be rewarded. I know that there is a lot that people do not know about many things as well, many other things like manufacturing, refining, mining, agriculture e.t.c, but if I had the opportunity to start with one industry that I know has the power to empower people, particularly Nigerians the fastest I’ll chose Multilevel Marketing, Agriculture and then the others. I also know that the first reaction of most people to multilevel marketing might be negative, but believe it or not, you are missing out of some opportunities, and Passing Over Opportunities Repeatedly is what makes people POOR.

Donald Trump is reported to have been asked, what will you do, if you suddenly became bankrupt today. He said “I’ll look for a good Multilevel Marketing company, and work my way to the top there.” Multilevel Marketing is business for people that are interested in helping others, it’s a business school in that, you work and learn. Interestingly however, all of us are doing it already, howbeit unsuccessfully. Continue Reading »

Selling 003 – Account Penetration

I’ve been extremely busy lately as you must have noticed, I’ve bare had time to do many things, but one thing that never leaves my schedule daily is Learning! The day we stop learning is the day we start dying. Michelangelo said it well on his death bed, when he said -”still, I am learning”. I feel genuinely sorry for young people who allow their lives to just slide by. No conscious effort to add value to themselves, no conscious effort to take their lives out of the norms. Just going with the flow, waking, eating and sleeping. Learn… you have to learn everyday. That’s one of the reasons why this site is there, not only for you to read what is most current, but for you to go back to the past and learn.

If you have observed life well, you would have come to know, that the earth supports the negative trend. Rarely will you find maize gathering together somewhere to grow by themselves in commercial quantities -lol. Weed however needs no cultivation. In essence, you don’t need to do anything to grow wrong, just live life normally. The earth also supports the downward trend, it’s flight or upward movement that requires effort, coming down requires no work. Gravity pulls down! The rivers flow towards the lowest point… you want to end up a loser? Do nothing, just wake up when you feel like, eat regularly and sleep as soon as you feel like it.

Sorry for that detour, I’m sure someone needed that reminder. What I want to write about today is selling. If you read my previous articles on Selling, Selling 001 and Selling 002, you will see that selling is something I believe every human being should know a thing or two about. Whether you are a sales man on not, we all sell. We sell ourselves for a Job, a wife or promotion, we sell our perceptions – about football, a drink or someone else, we sell things – sometimes without knowing that is what we are doing. We sell ourselves, our friends e.t.c., we all sell. The most popular books are not written by the best authors, they are written by the best selling authors. Your ability to sell well, will go a long way to position you as the best in whatever your real specialization is. Selling is a skill that can be learnt. In the next few paragraphs, I will be adding one extra touch to helping you increase your selling ability. Read on. Continue Reading »

6k and CF Prepaid Cards Now Available

“The richest people in the world build networks. Everyone else is trained to look for work. Yes, well, the richest people in the world build networks. That’s why they’re called ‘Television Networks’ or gasoline service station networks. The poor and middle class and educated work for networks, I’d rather own the network.”- Robert Kiyosaki

My site is acting up today, so you’ll have to take this the way it looks. I usually like to edit it properly, indent quotations, make headings bold, e.t.c., but it’s not allowing me to do that today. I’m logging into my site like it’s not mine right now, I think the problem is with starcomms, so I’m having to hide my IP to see my site… It’s serious.

When I joined 6k4you, I was told by my upline and his upline, that the price it could be done in Nigeria is N24,000 and that to enter clubfreedom direct was N33,000. I joined 6 months after some people had joined, I didn’t invent the prices. After paying through someone for 2weeks, I asked, why do I need to give someone money to pay for me, how were they paying, I found out about egold, was a bit scared of it, but gradually overcame the fear enough to be a middle man for high volumes. Even though I have sold high volumes of egold, $1 has never passed through my account till date (still a bit scared). I have since then been wondering how to make it cheaper for Nigerians, since our cheapest option, Master Card has been abused (I actually have had the privilege of currently re-modeling one of the guys that broke over 30 boards with fake credit cards). I have been looking for cheaper and more secure ways since then. I try to bring prices down, make things better and earn a little for my efforts too. The surviving world is capitalist, we make it good, when we do it with our hearts and not our heads. 6kvouchers can now be gotten at as low as N9,250 to pay for one downline and clubfreedom vouchers for as low as N28,000. Maybe someday, the prices will still be cheaper still, I can promise that I will try. Continue Reading »

Clubfreedom, 6k4you and RT

I have received too many mails in the last few days from people asking me about 6k4you, Revolving Travel and Clubfreedom. How it works, what the boards are like, how to cycle fast, how many people they need to have under them, and trust my people, how much they need to invest to cycle out in one day or week?! People have also asked questions about how to pay? How come you are charging 24k, can I pay for myself? How come my down line is on a higher level than myself? How come someone with 30 people is higher than someone with 150 people down the line? How does this work, and how can I make the most of my membership?

I have answered numerous phone calls, and have decided it’s better to make the vital information available online, so that we can have an authoritative information on how CF, 6k4you and Revolving Travel (RT) works. It’s also better to put a system in place to ensure that we can manage what is about to come. I want to assure all that have joined and are actively working today, that not long from now, people you approached that told you they were not interested, will beg to join through you. Be rest assured that by then, anybody joining through this team will pay a a premium to join. Before you ask about the authority with which I speak, let me give you some basic statistics. As of today, 7 weeks after I joined clubfreedom from 6k4you, I have cycled once, 3 of my down lines are on traveler positions(tops, 1 week from cycling), I am also back to traveler position, I have >8 down lines on standby (tops, 2weeks), I have another >15 on planner, many more on reservation and too many to count on standby. Haven entered from 6k4you, I have two of my re-entry legs in planner positions, and others still coming up. I have a guy who’s less than 3weeks in, and is on standby, while his upline’s upline is still on the feeder board. It’s not just about having a village under you, it’s recruiting, training, marketing, strategy, team building, people management and business development. It’s multi functional and multitasking. You need to learn how it works. Continue Reading »

“Visibility is more important than Ability”

I have been reading a book, titled “The brand called You”, it is a highly recommended book for anybody who wants to go into business. It is authored by Peter Montoya and Tim Vandehey. Interestingly I have not read any other of their books before, but I have read a book by Al Ries who forwarded their book.

The thought above is an excerpt from the book, interestingly though it was one of my first discoveries in business. This runs contrary to the non political belief system of an employee, afterall isn’t visibility politics? Reading through the book the statement struck me again, and thoughts flashed to mind, truely, visibility is more important than ability. Continue Reading »

Selling 002

“Selling is the art of transferring emotions” – Unknown

In selling a product or a service, the entire process involves getting the buyer to feel the way you do about your product. This invariably means that if you don’t like your product you are not likely to get good results selling it. The first thing that gets impressed on your buyer is your perception of your product.

If you have ever tried selling anything, you’ll have discovered that it’s extremely difficult to sell a product you don’t like. You’ll find it extremely easy however, to sell something you are really passionate about.

The first thing you want to do about any product you have to sell then, is to know enough about it, to be able to passionately sell it. Remember selling is a transfer of emotions. I want you to feel the way I feel about the product, and there is nothing easier to transfer than emotions. Remember how easy it is to rejoice with people that are rejoicing and how easily you’ll start mourning if a second after you meet a friend that is bereaved. When you sell the first thing you transfer is not the benefits, it’s your enthusiasm.

Let me use an example of a product we all sell – Ourselves! Every job interview is a sales opportunity, every business meeting and every networking opportunity, everyday and everywhere we sell ourselves. Whatever your profession, if you don’t know how to sell then you won’t get bought or you’ll be bought for less than you are worth. Selling is the art of convincing the willing to buy.

In an interview, the first opportunity you are likely to get, is a request for you to introduce yourself. If you think the interviewer is interested in getting to know your family tree, you kid yourself. In asking you to introduce yourself, the interviewer is giving you a fantastic opportunity to sell yourself. While there are ways to do this effectively without blowing your own horn, this is where it shows if even you are passionate enough with the product called you, to sell it.

It is perverted for a human being to pursue pain. In the same vein, nobody will be willing to engage the services of someone who is not happy or excited about himself/herself. Let’s take an extreme position, imagine you are an interviewer and a candidate is asked to introduce himself/herself and he immediately frowns, looks to the side, and says great things about his or her achievements like someone far away. The product he is selling is probably good, but the first thing you are likely to share is his feeling about him/herself.

Selling involves knowing and liking your product. If technical knowledge gives you a bonus, passion for the product should score you two more. Selling with passion is not selling, it’s genuinely caring about your customer and providing a product or service that can help. People will get weary of you if they think you are trying to sell them something, but they will love you if your passion makes it clear you are trying to help. Remember, the golden rule in selling is that people will do business with people they know, like or trust. Get passionate.

“Stop selling, start helping” – Zig Ziglar

“They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”- Carl W. Buechner

“Above all, be true to yourself, and if you cannot put your heart in it, take yourself out of it.” – Unknown

Selling 001

Wether you like it or not, you will have to learn how to sell! Selling is an important skill that is useful to whatever it is you desire to become in life. If you read the first article on becoming a star, you will remember that the first thing you need to do after discovering your ultimate desire is to analyse your skill requirements. Selling is a skill that is very essential. The first commodity you’ll learn to sell upon coming into the labour market, is yourself!

Knowing how to sell is crucial in getting your dream job, securing your promotion, closing a business deal, pushing your ideas or even getting a good wife. I have done a full day training on selling for people before and they wondered why they were never taught to sell back in school. It’s so interesting that a skill of this much value is completely left out of the school curriculum. Get it straight, you need to know how to sell, then you need to go out and put it to practice.

Over time, selling had been imagined to be an art. You either had it or didn’t. People believed that being a good sales woman or man was based on temperament. The smooth talking sanguines will do better than the melacholic melancholies, how untrue. In looking critically at the art of selling used by people ranked as exceptional sales men, some science was discovered. There is a way to sell, there is a process, there are steps and the art can be distilled down into a science which can be taught.

To understand selling, it will be good to understand another skill that is a close colleague of selling. It’s a skill we all use as well, it’s the skill of “buying”. By studing the behaviour of the buyer, which we all fall into at one time or the other, we can gain a deeper understanding of the key principles for selling. Please be certain that a full course on Selling can take as much as 3 full days.
The question that unviels the steps that should govern your sales process is, “why will a buyer buy?” In years of studying the thinking process of buyers (you inclusive), it was discovered that there are 5 reasons why a buyer will buy any product. You can put any product in these reasons, and you’ll discover that the reasons are absolutely correct. The buyer will not buy for one of the reasons, all are critical to making this decision. In order to have fun with this, I prefer to use the example of asking a lady out. Why will a buyer buy? Why will the employer say yes? Why will the lady say yes? Why will your boss say yes?

The buyer will buy if

1. he sees that the seller demonstrates an understanding of his or her present situation

2. the sellers proposal is practical

3. he understand how the sellers idea/product/service works

4. the benefits are clear and

5. the next steps of action are easy.

In every sales encounter, success is greatly enhanced depending on how well your sales pitch is delivered. The five questions above form not only the content of your sales presentation, but even the order of your presentation. Mastery of this is developed over time by practice and by experience.

Let’s use getting to ask a lady out as an example – Just for humour. First you need to understand the person situation before you can demonstrate your understanding. Lets assume you are both in the same school and she has been having a lot of male disturbance. You walk up to her, and

Guy: How are you linda, you’ve been looking quite distant lately, is everything okay? I observed that as soon as the class is over, you simply pack your books and go, you don’t wait to chat with people anymore, hope it’s not that people were beginning to take you for granted and make silly assumptions? (1-Demonstrates understanding of situation)
Girl: You are very observant, actually, people were beginning to make assumptions. (smiles that smile that says it all)

Guy: Wow, Guys!!! Well can’t blame them, the girl is good (chuckle) but you know, I don’t think it pays you not to be active in class because of these. I think if you act close to just one person, everybody will get an idea and buzz off, that way you can still make the most of the class discussions. (2. The practical proposal- remember win-win)

Girl: How will that work? (if you did a good job with step 2, the buyer will ask for step 3)

Guy: Quite easy, you and I will read together, chat together, and generally create the we are close idea, no strings attached, no serious favours, just do all we have always done, only this time around, sufficient to ward off unneccesary assumptions. I’ll wait for you….( fill in the blanks)

Girl: (Thinking, does this pay me? Every buyer asks that)

Guy: The benefit of this is that you’ll be able to maintain your friendships, your academics will improve, you’ll be able to light up in class and fully participate, and who knows, we might get to like each other- (laughs loud- she tries to hit him) Girl: you ke?

Guy: …(continues) it will really help you, its not nice the way you’ve been looking harrassed in the past few days.(4. Clarifies the benefits)
Girl: (thinking…hmmm, not bad, whats the next step)

Guy: I think we should start right away. Essentially, I walk you to your hostel regularly, we make sure we are each in class together, I’m generally around, we keep it up and see how it goes. If you fall in love with me, I won’t find it funny (both laugh-hahahahah) (5. easy next steps)

This entire article is just one element of one of the critical success factors in selling, master it, and keep searching for more. Rome was not built in a day.
