Where will you be at 65?

It’s after midnight as usual, it’s been a really long day. Ever since I made up my mind to be in more circulation and leave my comfort zone, lagos for a while, I have experienced new things. The journey has been long and tedious, but somehow I feel a grace of God upon my life guiding and protecting me. All of a sudden, it started jumping out of the bible to me that even Jesus did not restrict himself to one town, but was all over the place moving from city to city doing good.

Even though Jesus was going about doing good, it would amaze you that his greatest opposition were not demons, but rather pharisees and saducees – the so called scholars and learned men who you would expect to know better. Everytime the wind of change looms around, the people most likely to be left behind are those who have tasted of an old fading glory or the people who have had a not so successful experience. They have done something close before, and their mind sets into a framework that will take too much to unfreeze. They end up missing out big time on what was prepared for them, and stones rise up in their stead. Let me crack a little bit of the code and take it home to you – those who have sown and not reap, are likely not to sow again and certainly not reap, even though the rain were better the next year. Those who failed in business before, are likely to be scared of the opportunity that was meant to bring them success. Those who took part in clubfreedom, are likely to look at Holidays and Cash with the same mindset and hence never benefit. Those go high on the employee ladder are likely to be too smart to ever resign and start business. People are regularly held back by their old glory successes, or by their previous failures.

If you are not ready to hear the truth, I advice that you leave this site now and not read this post. Today, I will bare it to you as it is. I hope you know already though, and have only been comforting yourself. The odds are stacked against our ever becoming someone significant at the ripe old age of 65. The statistics I got from the so called developed world shocks me, and I am afraid for the future of many in my generation. Where will you be at 65? Will you be dead, broke or wealthy? What are you doing to guarantee your confession? Continue Reading »

Good, the enemy of Great!

As you read this article I am writing, I’ll like you to think about your life, and ask yourself questions that will move you from where you are to where you are capable of being.

I remember vividly an event that occurred about 11yrs ago back in OAU -Ile Ife. We had invited this preacher to school to come address students, his name if I remember correctly was -Taiwo Adelakun. We had a great session, I guess, like all sermons, we forget! There was however one statement he made that day that I have never forgotten and interestingly a number of my friends back then have also not forgotten. While he was preaching he started talking about how some of his friends were on fire, they were extraordinary, they were gifted, they had big dreams, but most of them had settled down to the complacency of life and of staying average or good. They had settled down to having jobs, having families and following routines. Their fire had gone down, their talents were not in use, their dreams discarded, they now worked with this and that, and live here and there. He shouted a prayer from the podium, and all of us found it difficult to respond with a resounding – Amen!  His prayer was strange and shocking. The prayer was, “You will Never Settle Down!”

Today I marvel at how long and how far, I wonder if most of the ears that heard those words haven’t settled down. Even you, my friend and reader, have you settled down? Can you be classified as on fire and on the cutting edge of your talent? Have you bought into the worlds philosophy of can’t, impossibile and “make do with what you have”? Did life offer you something to fill your stomach with rather than a sumptous meal? Have you settled down to what is good at the expense of what is great? While my mind easily picks out the people we would have said were exceptional, my mind painfully sorrows over those who were not even able to discover their uniqueness back in school and had seemed to settle down since after secondary school. I’ve heard great stories that have a backdrop of a fantastic childhood and the current features of  dull artwork. This morning, I’ll like you help you address and attack a few major good ideologies that prevent us from being great! You must not settle down! Continue Reading »

I have come to discover that there is a lot that people do not know about Multi Level Marketing in Nigeria, and believe it or not, there are some things beginning to happen that indicate that those who have profited or lost but understand the systems are about to be rewarded. I know that there is a lot that people do not know about many things as well, many other things like manufacturing, refining, mining, agriculture e.t.c, but if I had the opportunity to start with one industry that I know has the power to empower people, particularly Nigerians the fastest I’ll chose Multilevel Marketing, Agriculture and then the others. I also know that the first reaction of most people to multilevel marketing might be negative, but believe it or not, you are missing out of some opportunities, and Passing Over Opportunities Repeatedly is what makes people POOR.

Donald Trump is reported to have been asked, what will you do, if you suddenly became bankrupt today. He said “I’ll look for a good Multilevel Marketing company, and work my way to the top there.” Multilevel Marketing is business for people that are interested in helping others, it’s a business school in that, you work and learn. Interestingly however, all of us are doing it already, howbeit unsuccessfully. Continue Reading »

The Unknown Tomorrow

“Advertorial: Join us at the Investors Forum. Book ahead. Send a text to 08033469632 indicating your name and email.”

I hope you are not postponing your life till tomorrow, because if you are, I intend to shake you a bit today! Yesterday is gone, tomorrow does not exist, when we get to tomorrow, if we ever do, we’ll call it today! This truth leaves one with a shocking reality that what you really have power over is today. In fact if we want to make it more extreme, now! Does it then not seem strange, that many are living lives they are unhappy about today, in the hope that it will change tomorrow? Don’t procrastinate your happiness, don’t postpone your joy, don’t leave off to an unknown future the best parts of your life. Haven’t you heard – “Tomorrow, tomorrow… is always a day away!”?

This reminds me of a story I once heard. Of a rich Consultant that traveled to his village to let his air down, have fun and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the country side. While in the village, he decided to go fishing with on of his old time buddies who was a fisherman by profession. He set up an appointment with his friend and they set out to fish together. While they were on the waters, the rich consultant saw possibilities and told his friend. “Do you know that your business can be much bigger than this? You are living way below your potentials”. The fisherman looked at him, puzzled, “really? But why would I want to make my business bigger?” The rich consultant was puzzled at why a human being would not be aspirational and went on to explain further. Continue Reading »

One on One with Bunmi Oni – 2

Doctoring the Books, what you will not be told.

One of the first things I realized in my discussion with Bunmi, which I didn’t hesitate to tell him, was that it would take a lot of business education to explain things to the average employee. How would you ever explain some things to people. Well, maybe that’s why some of us are passionate about educating people, else how will you explain what I’m about to do. Somehow I felt I could only relate to some of those things because, first I had worked in a manufacturing company, and now own a business. Irrespective of why I feel I understand however, I’ll do my best to be as explanatory as possible.

I’ll like to say as well that I am not biased. This is the first time I’ll ever speak with the man for more than 2 minutes. In previous times, all that I have ever done, had been to walk up to him and greet him, like I have done to many other MDs that have crossed my path. Where there is smoke, there is certainly fire, I’ll try as much as possible to share my perspectives about the smoke as well.

Again, these are merely my perspectives, the impressions I got when i spoke with the man. They in no way form the court’s discoveries or 100% of Bunmi’s views as I did not hold a recorder when speaking with him. I’m not his lawyer as well, so be easy on judgment :) And of course, measure based on your measure. I expect that the cleanest people are usually the most intolerant of any spec of dirt. One on One with Bunmi Oni – 1

Ever since the Cadbury Plc Saga with Bunmi Oni, many of us young career people and entrepreneurs who valued the integrity for which Bunmi Oni had been known, have wondered. We have wondered what exactly happened, is it true? Did he really defraud the company? Did he defraud the Shareholders? We searched frantically through the papers for a clue of his response, we longed to see him, and ask, “what is your version of the story?” For years, Bunmi Oni was the business icon of integrity and a role model to many of us who wanted to do things right. He was the beacon of hope, that in a dark dark world of guerrilla managerial gimmicks and self aggrandizing maneuvers, it was still possible to rise to the top of an establishment and play big time in Nigeria’s business terrain without compromising true north values. All that was challenged when the issues were raised. Many of us jumped into conclusions, some of us hoped for his comments and assumed that the silence of a man of integrity meant consent. In a 4hrs meeting with him yesterday his testimony shocked me, and rekindled the light of hope in my mind for value based thinking and integrity. I asked him before I left (I went with a colleague though), if I was allowed to talk about this, and … I am… Continue Reading »

Misconceptions

Published by Adeolu Akinyemi under Misconceptions

I observed recently that there are many misconceptions about a number of things surrounding me, and I’ve been wondering how I’ll resolve them. Silence they say is the only requirement required for the wrong information to own the airwaves. I have decided to do justice to this misconceptions, by offering the public the benefit of my side of the story. Sure some people will read what I have to say, and still stick with their believes, and many will read and go… “aha”, for those many, it’s all worth all the pains involved in penning them down.

I understand well that there is only two categories of people that don’t get bad publicity, the people that are dead, and the people that are doing nothing. Thankfully, I am alive and busy, and capable of explaining my side of these stories.

Please find below some of these misconceptions and the truth. Continue Reading »
