The last week has been very busy for me, guess it’s also why I haven’t been writing as frequently. I actually want to turn over a new leaf and start writing everyday again, maybe soon. Maybe much sooner than I thought. In the last 8 days, I have been involved in facilitating an HR MBA 1 Class, been organizer and part of facilitators for a 3 days Team Building Session for MTN, I’ve also spoken in one church, one youth seminar, and managed to do the other everyday things I do, including writing… but not as frequently, and there is yet plenty undone. I had conceived an idea about 3 weeks ago, of giving a few people an opportunity to do a success experiment together with me. It’s an experiment I did with some people last year that brought me good fortune. It was like a joke, but within 6 months of my participating in this experiment, a number of events took place that jolted me forward. I am certain it will do the same for you. Continue Reading »
As I write this article, my leg aches, my hands have wounds and my head hurts. I sustained some injuries 3 days ago, and I long to always look back at the scars. Yes you read that right, I long to always look back at the origin of those scars, the events surrounding it are memorable.
Thursday last week, I travelled back to Ilorin, precisely Federal Government College Ilorin my Alma Mata. I went back after 14yrs, invited as the guest speaker in the school’s 35th Founder’s day Celebration. When I entered the school gate, I felt a bit shocked, the school had not improved since I left it 14yrs ago but had actually deteriorated. I went round the school, recounting the story of my childhood to my colleagues that went with me, also preparing to address the crowd of 800+ students and their teachers. My objective was to ensure that by the time I left Ilorin the students’ passion for academic excellence would have improved visibly. This objective was well achieved by the time we left Ilorin, and even though I have these aches, I am glad I made myself available. Continue Reading »
I have always joked with some friends of mine, that Nigeria is currently in a selling phase, and they they had better stay around and buy a portion of Nigeria, as the prices will be going up in the near future. Then it was a joke, but today right before our very eyes, Nigeria is on sale.I’m sure you are wondering how? Don’t worry, I’ll not leave you wondering for long. Nigeria is being sold plot by plot, the wise are buying now, fools are making excuses and the ignorant don’t even know what is going on around them. Reading this here already places you ahead of many, but you’ll only stay ahead not when you know, but when you take action based on what you know.I honestly thought it was going to be until the end of the year before we embark on this type of project, but quite frankly, in what looks like a miracle, we are embarking on it now, and in grand style. Listen tight because it’s going to be a game of cash and fastest finger. The New Nigeria Club just secured a deal with a property development company for a land mass allocated and mapped in line with the shape of Nigeria. We are making this available to members only at the lowest prices available in the market, and we are selling parts of the New Nigeria City 1, state by state. The plan is to make this area a tourist attraction, and to involve State Governments and Companies in the development of a prototype Nigeria where everything works. If you are as excited as I am about what’s happening, read on. Continue Reading »

“To the world, you may be just one person; but to just one person you may be the world”
Don’t you think it will be a good idea if we can pull funds together and make a real difference in the lives of people who N50,000 to N100,000 will be a big miracle for? Don’t you think it will be a good idea to shock a not so privileged student, artisan, farmer e.t.c. with a life changing gift of a few thousands? It’s a God given idea, and some of my close friends have already volunteered to join me in fully funding the first few, before my online friends catch on.
“He who is gracious to a poor man lends to the LORD, and He will repay him for his good deed.” -Prov 19:17
I remember back in the days in University, when for a stretch of many months, myself and a few friends gathered together at the dot of midnight. Wherever we were, we all headed for the same place by quarter to 12. We would spend 15-20mins, and that will be the end of our meeting. It wasn’t a cult , it was a meeting birthed by understanding. We came together to create our futures with our words. We were 7 when we started, we had a golden rule not to invite anyone, but not to refuse anyone. By the time we had gone for 2months, we were over 200. Don’t ask me how, that is the topic for another day. What reminds me of this time, is one of the issues we loved to declare about -wealth -”I am rich!”, “I can’t be poor!”,”I can’t be small”, “God gives me power to get wealth”, e.t.c. We all desired to be rich, we all proclaimed it. I have since wondered why the distribution of wealth is not uniform. Why does less than 20% of the earth own more than 80% of it’s resources. I asked deep questions, I read many books, listened to many speakers and finally got an answer I was comfortable with. Continue Reading »
A friend commented lately, that the most important things in life are never taught. How true! Over the last 2 weekends, I have been extremely busy, I have been co-organizing together with my colleagues the second ever HR MBA 1 (Methods Becoming Actions). While we were busy making this happen in Ostra Hotel over 2 full weekends, I and this Friend- Babatunji Farinloye, saw a newly wedded couple. We laughed at how no school course covers training for marriage, raising children, building relationships, managing personal finance and so many of the really important things in life. I joked, that marriage is the only institution where we get a certificate before the school begins. While it is true that school does not prepare one for most of the important things in life, one must avail him/herself the privilege of such interventions. There is a mouth watering intervention coming up next week maximizing the use of the public holiday on May 29. Read on. Continue Reading »
My people say that the house of a king that gets burnt only adds beauty to it. I believe that this will be the case with this current post, because this is my second time of writing it all over from scratch. I actually wrote one and posted yesterday night only to wake up this morning and discover that I slept shortly after, and the link timed out as well. I refreshed my site and the latest post wasn’t there. I however am not distracted in my mission.
Just last week, I wrote about Reward and Recognition and wrote extensively about an experiment I intended using to reward loyal readers on this site. The details of this is available here. In summary however, I asked the first 10 people to signify their interest in participating in this experiment to deposit N50,000 in my account. I informed them that they would be required to mail articles from this site, using the email this post link on each of the posts to an average of 100 people per month (about 3+ per day), while they do this, I promised to work hard to return N220,000 each to the 10 participants within the next 90 days. In the course of the week, two deadlines were set to have the 10 participants pay in. Interestingly, 9 participants paid in, opening up one slot still to all others. Instead of setting another deadline though, I have decided to make this one slot open to as many of all the others that indicated their interest in the experiment before today-31st March, 2007. How will this work? Read on. Continue Reading »
In Human Resources Management, the topic above is very familiar. We need to understand how we intend to reward and recognize our people. Different people are motivated by different things, hence people developing reward systems need to be aware of what people consider as rewarding.
In the theory of motivation, there is also what is called Herzberg’s hygiene factors – Some things might not be enough to make you leave a company, but they are enough to make you not think of leaving. What seems rather amazing however, is that the things that are hygiene factors are sometimes thought about by many as motivational factors. Herzberg was able to identify some of the elements classified as hygiene to include: company cars, salary, relationship with boss or subordinates, status and security. Does this shock you? He then identified the real motivators as achievement, recognition, work itself, personal growth, responsibility and advancement.
This month, also being the birthday of this site, I am in a great mood. Hence aside of the competition we currently have on, that will help people to win some fantastic prices, I am hereby announcing an experiment to reward and recognize the most courageous risk takers on this site. This experiment is open to only 10 participants and it’s on a first come first serve basis. You are about to be pleasantly surprised! Continue Reading »
Last week Thursday, I had the priviledge and opportunity of speaking to a number of entrepreneurs and entrepreneur wannabes about ecommerce. While the talk took about 2hrs, I discovered that there was a meaty part of the entire gist that was not on the content for ecommerce.
I was amazed at how many people do not know or remain unaware about how easily they can jumpstart their business and career by becoming more visible. While in paid employment I remember that I had read and come to know that one of the best things you can do for your career is become more visible. The corporate world does not favour the timid souls, promotions are not regular callers to people who bury their head in work and only take it off to go home. Visibility is important, the people that matter must know that you do what you do, and do a good job of doing it. Visibility is key. In internal selling, which is basically getting internal alignment and management sponsorship for your ideas, visibility is key. Visibility in the corporate internal environment involves understanding the use of email, one on ones, meetings and almost every opportunity to toot your horn, without blowing it. Continue Reading »
