When that question is asked today, a few people like you know, but the young man is still in obscurity of some sort. Who is “______________”, please feel free to put your name there? Today, not many people know, you are also in your season of obscurity. We all are climbing the ladder of life, progressing gradually into vantage positions of visibility. Today unknown, tomorrow star bound, but today unknown. Who is “__________”?. In 2005, he made his first entrance to public life, when he was selected as one of Time’s magazines heroes and icons. He was christened “The Tireless Crusader”. He was being rewarded for what he had done, somehow while obscurity as a law enforcement official. He led a noble crusade, a war against the rich and mighty, he didn’t care whose ox was gored. He was Wall Street’s top cop. Ahead of 2005, it’s a name that would have been mentioned without much ado, but not today. His great personality and good work have brought him to limelight, but his unmanaged weakness has made him an object of shame. Eliot Spitzer, resigned his appointment as the Governor of New York today, with his wife by his side. In his words, he would not want to allow his private failings to affect other people’s work. He had gotten into public office with private problems, and what he had not addressed, undressed him of power. He is Eliot Spitzer, now former Governor of New York.
Now back to you. Today you are relatively unknown. You are in the early days of your life, the early rungs of the ladder that will take you inevitably to success. You are not yet made, you are not yet on air, you are not yet it. You can afford to fool around, mess around and have a lot of “fun”. The only question in my mind for you today is, what are you allowing to live? What are you refusing to address? What are you postponing till later? What about you will you not feel so proud about if you were in a leadership position. There are many possible answers that can fill the space created by those questions, take your time to fill them and apply the same principle I’m about to proffer.
What brought Eliot down was sex. It was an issue he took a public stand against, but it’s the same issue that brought him down. There are few things that destroy public men so badly, it’s the issue of unresolved sexual urges. While he read his speech, his wife stood speechless and without any hints of emotion beside him. It wasn’t only bad that he had gotten sex in exchange for cash, he had broken his marriage vows, disappointed his wife and devastated his daughters. The issue brings a lot of thoughts to my mind, why do men cheat? Why sex? Why a prostitute? What is his excuse? His wife?
Sex scandals! What an exciting way for a man to end his career. History is littered with stories of men of power whose high rise was halted by unmanaged sexuality. From the stories of Clinton to Tyson, to the earlier stories of David and of Solomon. Illicit sex has been a long lived problem. The bible says that by the means of a whore is a man reduced to a piece of bread. It declares that none that have gone into improper sex have come out of it alive. Sex is good and sweet, but only within the environments that the bible defines as proper. The only environment being marriage.
Young man, don’t deceive yourself. You will not handle it better when you decide tomorrow. Tomorrow will never come. You will only handle it better if you decide today. Young man, marriage won’t make things better, stolen waters are sweet, and addictive. It’s interesting the process that takes place prior to the climax of sexual activity. The man builds up and gathers momentum, pulling together all of his life form, his intelligence, his stamina, his drive, his passion, his purpose, his vision, his dreams, his hope, his life… he pulls it up every time he thrusts and downloads it in one breath. After he does this, he’s tired and exhausted, if it was towards child birth, he gives birth to one who captures all of his talents and life forms, if it was into a strange woman, he hands over his life and takes up what that one has. Sex is spiritual, and many men are wrecked by it. Young man, address it, or it will undress you. Sort it or it will distort your future. You need to be brutal with your vices, or they will manhandle you. You need to fight it like you want to win, or when you are weak it will rule you. Eliot Spitzer scribbles down his name in history as one more man who will be referred to in the history of mighty men that were stopped. Will you make that list? The battle is won or lost today! Today Unknown.

WORD…he that has EAR let him HEAR.
Enjoy your weekend
Yeeeee…this is hitting the nail on the head..After I heard about the Ex-Governor fall..my mind begin to wonder..what will make a man that has all going for him to resort to that act…and I guess you have answered my question.
God bless you. Do you mind if I share this with other in my environ.
Regards
I am even too ashamed to put my name but it is one thing I have been struggling with all my adult life, but I have made up my mind to destroy the evil vice this month.
Thanks Deolu
How are the mighty fallen! Truly, a little leaven, leavens the whole lump. A little character defect is all it takes to destroy a whole lifetime labor. May the Lord deliver us from temptation.
I am again tripped at your intelligence. It is a very thought-provoking and a sure word to get all men (and women too) to sit tight and be in control of their lives or else…
You are one in a million and all your wakeup calls are coming at the right time- most especially for me.
Thanks for always sharing the brotherly love and keeping us on our toes in all forms- morally, spiritually, financially…
God bless you falafala (lol)
This is just 2 much. This more than enough food for thought that I can digest now.
It’s the raw truth.
Keep up the great work man.
God bless u

Scarey I guess…
Some of us would have to be grateful we’re not ‘there’ yet, and so we have the opportunity to address our issues gradually starting from today that we’re still hidden.
thanx for this Deolu.
hmm….thank you.
Chairman.
Thanks for the timely word. God bless you!

word word word word word
I remember an earlier post last year where you addressed this sort of issue, i now can remember the title. It emphasised the need to deal with our hidden habits before they make mince meant of us in the future.
I’ve got my own demons and honestly, though it might not be so graphic like Mr Spitzer’s, i daresay i will not want it to affect my chances at a successful future.

Hi Deolu,
I am not at all surprise with what happened to spitzer . It can never happen in Naija !As far as i am concern such a story would never get any special attention in this part of the world. Womanizing is a blessing here . I am not glorifying it but tell me did you not hear of Abacha’s women? Did Oladipo Diya not say at Oputa’s panel that he has a lot in common with his oga which is womanizing? Bros, did you not hear of one of the most ridiculous sex scandals that is tearing Gbenga obasanjo and his Father apart ? The point i am trying to make is — over there sex scandals will cost a public figure his image but here ….. men, you will get a promotion.
I swear if Spitzer… abi wetin be name..were to be a naija administrator that case will never show up. Even if it does na the person wey bring am shame go catch, because people would likely ask ” wetin you go find for im bedroom wey you come see say no bi im wife dey there ? ehn ? Alakoba !
My advice to young men and women… fear God and let him be your guide , remember him always and dont forget His dos and donts
One decision.
hmm…….food for thought!
very impactful piece, it pierces thru the heart.
Hello Deolu,
Nice to be back after my short break.
This post reminds me of one of your articles last year entitled “BUT” wherein u said that what brought men down from grace to grass grew with them from grass to grace but were left unchecked.
I agree with Moha 1 that, were Spitzer to be in Naija, such news would have been a non issue. We over here in Naija fail to see the relationship between the private (esp sexual) lives and the public lives of those in position of authority. This relationship, for heaven’s sake, is spiritual with its attendant effects…
That said, its courage, sincerity and some level of ruthlessness (i mean to oneself) in dealing with the “buts” in our lives.
Cheers with Luv!
sorry i mean, it takes courage…
deolu this seems like you got some kind of divine revelation, thank you for sharing.
rooftop mc’s sang, ori mi nwu e lagi mo. you gats be brutal with this thing cos its one sweet sweet killer that would not leave you even when you say you have had enough. history is littered with seemingly great men (and women?) reduced to nothing by their inability to overcome something so sweet. sad. whatever it is we would not be proud to let the world know, that thing you would not want to share on sunday when they call for testimonies, the earlier we brutally overcome them spirituall and physically the better for our wellbeing both today and more importantly the future.
wance again thaks for this insight for living, Jah bless.
It is important that we acknowledge our faults and weakness. So that we can deal with them before they get out of control. Being in denial would only make it worse.
We all know those secret thoughts, actions and habits that we hid from the rest of the world.
With God on our side we will surely overcome and become better people.
DEOLU,
This is quite revealing! In any case, it takes grace of God to surmount some peculiar inherent problems. The case is that of …..’If you have never sin before then be the first to throw a stone’. You are dealing with human being here…not saint!
When thing happen like this, we have responsibility to learn from it to affect our life. Eliot Spitzer is only human.
Akin Ayoola
This is a great article ,i believe that every decision we make either great or small will either make or mar us.Had Eliot known that Night He was with the prostitute that he was destroying his career maybe he would have changed his mind.
One of the respondents said womanising is part of African culture, that is a pure lie(if the article makes your heart bleed, then change your ways).Even in traditional african setting, they have stufffs like Magun(thunderbolt) to punish men who cant control their sexual urge.
I believe the Key word hear is SELF CONTROL,power without control is incipient death.
Deolu, the truth is that you are an aoutstanding Nigerian and i say to you, keep your head up and keep the flag flying!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Leye, i stand by your side on this.
@ Leye
“One of the respondents said womanising is part of African culture, that is a pure lie(if the article makes your heart bleed, then change your ways).Even in traditional african setting, they have stufffs like Magun(thunderbolt) to punish men who cant control their sexual urge…”
You said you disagree with me on my opinion regarding womanizing in Africa .. haba leye why dont you show one public figure that has come down in Nigeria due to any sex related scandal , Beside i asked some questions in my write up , try to answer them. I am not yoruba but i know that the reason for magun is more to protect the women than to check the men.
Leye … take a look , a nice and matured at your sorrounds and tell me how many people are not really guilty of sexuall promisquity . For your information as well Deolu is more interested in people learning from his articles than in telling him he is this and he is that. We all know what he is . Let the people who read his articles comment on what they have learnt and give their own sincere opinion not because they want to please Deolu but to show that they truelly understand the lessons.
Dear Leye… i want to use this oppotunity to invite you to the National assembly complex in Abuja , I want you to see what sex is …….. olboy dont say what you dont know. I still maintain that if Elliot Spitzer were a Nigerian that story will not cause him his job.
@ Deolu
I want to advice that ,as part or your website or your articles , let us have an opinion poll. Something like , those for and those against.
i understand moha’s point of view. really for a man to be disciplined sexually, it takes more than natural effort. its takes a supernatural power most times. in the case of elliot, truly, if he was a nigerian, no jupiter would have been able to accuse him of anything and he would not think near resigning. it has to an extent become a norm in our society unless we want to shy away from the truth. lecturers, employers to mention but a few are all involved in this. i am sorry to go this far, but don’t we even have pastors who are guilty of this, even very regularly, and hide under grace. yet they go on with their life.
Ms Bimbo.
Hmmm.. at this point i feel like writing some few words after reading Moha1’s comments.
The main point i want us to be conscious of is that Nigeria is on a journey not yet at it’s position in destiny, there is still a lot of stages to metamophosize into, let’s not forget we are the future of Nigeria and we are set on a mission to see a New Nigeria emerging. Is anyone here still looking forward to see the likes of Abacha, Obasanjo, MKO, Adedibu or any of the legislators present now in Abuja who are promiscous when we get to New Nigeria. Who among us can say Abacha, Obasanjo or the likes are his mentor or you want to be like them in all ramifications. Definitely there could be one thing or the other good about each of them but who wants to be a leader like them. In New Nigeria we are not just craving to be rich or get wealth by any means without character and values. Let’s refer to NNC ethics and values, that’s what we working towards.
@ Moha1, Yes it is true that in Nigeria of today if anyone behaves like Elliot he might not loose his position but i believe in Nigeria of tomorrow it will not be acceptable, Nigeria is progressing gradually, if we all make up our mind to make such habit unacceptable in holding public positions so shall it be, as young people( the leaders of tomorrow) the re-orientation must begin from now. Let’s speak against the root of these bad habits that might have been forming even in the lives us young people, let’s help and encourage ourselves to overcome this bad habits
like what Deolu is doing with his articles, similar work is been done by many people too e.g Praise Fowowe.
@All,
I believe we are not building ourselves to be local champions, habouring habits that seems to be thriving in Nigeria only. I see us New Nigeria People to be global players, people of acceptable values and character all over the world. That’s why when we hear or see issues like that of Elliot happenning, it is imperative like Deolu did to talk to ourselves. For example, we all are happy that Nigeria Banks are now opening branches in the western world and employing Nigerian personnels to manage them, as a young man working in Nigeria Banking industry today and you have been getting away with bad habits at home, it is better to address it or else you might have to work in USA tomorrow where your habits will not be acceptable. Kofi Annan worked for many years as UN Secretary general, if he has modelled himself applicable to Ghana only i think he would have been a disgrace probably. I remember sometimes ago Obasanjo was contesting for this UN position, only God’s knows if he has gotten it and didn’t change his habits scandals like that of Elliot could have sent him home untimely.
Adeolu, i will not fail to appreciate your efforts in making this blog a precious resource centre for all of us to interact and add values to our lives for better tomorrow, God will continue to increase your grace and strenght, i look forward to a New Nigeria emerging, people with valus and character, people who are able to checkmnate their ‘BUTS’ and bad habits, GOD HELP US ALL!!!!!!! UP NNC, UP NEW NIGERIA.
One thing that we must never forget is that there are GOOD nigerians and there are also bad nigerians.
There was a similar occurence in the bible when Elijah the prophet thought there were no more godly people in the land but God told him that there are still thousands of godly people hidden in caves.
Likewise in Nigeria, there are millions of Godly people hidden in caves.
Infact i believe one of the problems we have in nigeria is what has been described as “junk journalism” which has perfected the act of reporting the evil deeds of nigerians and ignoring with great perfection great and noble acts worthy of emulation.
I believe in Nigeria ,therefore i choose to see the right things in its great citizens and help them work on their flaws. He who looks at the sun does not see the shadows.WATCH OUT WORLD ,we are on our way.
