Online Businesses/MLMs – My Stand!

This is coming as a digression and a distraction from my rest and vacation, but I need to address this quickly, before my silence is used as a marketing tool by some. I just got a call today from someone who heard from someone that I was claimed to be the leader of a particular MLM, this is absolutely wrong! I had taken a public stand by making comments on some particular posts on this site, indicating my lack of belief in some of these programs, if that does not read clearly enough, let me further add my thoughts here.

I also got a mail, from one of the most authoritative persons on the nigeria net today, asking me if my position on some online programs won’t affect my good name when they come crumbling. I replied him, explaining my stand, and I think all my friends and well wishers online also need the insight of my response. I love the way business is moving online, it’s giving many youths a chance and it’s creating the long awaited alternatives to yahoo-yahoo. Hopefully, the plans for giving the Nigerian youth a voice will be achieved first from the internet. Nobody needs to really agree totally with me on my stand on any of these online businesses though… it’s MY stand, and I’m just a little part of the universe.

Dubai 002 – Vision

One of the things that has continued to marvel me about Dubai, is how it has made use of nationals of other countries to sell properties that do not currently exist. Yeah, you read that right, many developers and property brokers in Dubai, make a living by selling properties that do not currently exist.

If you go around town like I do… like a hunting dog looking for the next rabbit..lol, you are likely to see opportunities all over Dubai. Everywhere you turn, there is a signpost about business and investment opportunities, and curiosity always gets the better side of me, so I ask. One scene that never ceases to amaze me is the one I’m about to describe now, it would have been fantastic, if it happened just once, but over and over again with different people? It’s awesome. I met a couple on Sunday and by Tuesday I had changed my vacation plans. They were representatives of a property company in Dubai, and the information they gave me, was just too good to be true. In case your appetite is getting wet already, save it for my return, I’ll be posting many big and small deals from this my short visit. Our extensive conversation about Dubai made me certain that there are a lot of things Nigeria could learn from this country. I knew coming here would birth many articles too, I’ll just take it one day at a time.

There are lots of lessons to learn from Dubai, both for us as individuals and for us as a nation Nigeria. I am not afraid of failure!

It’s 12 midnight already, am about to pack up my laptop and go to sleep, but not just quite yet, I have some thoughts from the events of today that have been inspirational for me, and I think it’s good I share. 1st August, 2008… Sneak Preview

Kehinde is an employee of one of the leading telecommunications companies in Nigeria. His annual salary is N8,000,000 amongst other benefits. He is not doing badly for a middle manager. He knows his work well, has savings worth about N2,000,00 and is quite focused. His father is a civil servant, a director in one of the ministries, and his mother is a principal in one of the good schools in Ibadan, where they both live. Their annual salaries put together is less than N2,000,000. They also have life going on well for them, they have done well for their children, and they are reaping the satisfaction of knowing that their children are doing well in Lagos.

Kehinde wakes up at 5:20am to prepare for work. He goes through the normal routine like he was preprogrammed, a man has to work. He has many projects ahead of him, he needs money badly…or at least, more money. He jets out of the house at quarter to 6. He needs to beat third mainland early morning hold up. As he drives through the wee hours of the morning, he tunes on his radio, what is happening in town. He needs to at least catch up with the current events about all these funny financial policies that have become the topic of debates for the past 1yr. Should I, Should I not?

Should we answer a fool according to his folly?

Proverbs 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him

Proverbs 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

Growing up, these two verses used to excite me, when I was taught paradox in English, this sounded like the typical example. It was open for debate, two contrasting verses placed side by side in a book that was meant to provide guidance. Do we obey the first command, or the last command? Or was this an error? Or as my studious friends will suggest, let’s check the greek root word for both fools, maybe they are different, maybe one is kesil and the other kelis…lol. But seriously, these are two opposite statements placed side by side in the greatest book of all times (my opinion – not far fetched though, it still holds the guiness book of records most printed, most sold, most retranslated and most in demand book in the world)

I believe strongly that the meeting point of any such paradoxes is wisdom. Wisdom is the right application of total available knowledge in the solution of problems. There are times to answer a fool according to his folly, and there are times to refrain from answering a fool according to his folly. The ability to know the difference in these times, is wisdom! My site is acting up today, so you’ll have to take this the way it looks. I usually like to edit it properly, indent quotations, make headings bold, e.t.c., but it’s not allowing me to do that today. I’m logging into my site like it’s not mine right now, I think the problem is with starcomms, so I’m having to hide my IP to see my site… It’s serious.

I have been looking for cheaper and more secure ways since then. I try to bring prices down, make things better and earn a little for my efforts too. Yeah, the popular film is 300, but this about to be popular post is 30…

I’m clocking 30 on the 4th of August, 2007 that’s Saturday, and I’m celebrating it on the same day between 4-6pm at the Little saints Orphanage at Palmgrove like I did last year. I feel a bit funny talking about my age like most people, but for me, that age is a benchmark age for me. Three of the bible characters that inspire me the most, entered into the full realm of their missions at 30.

Jesus started his full time ministry at 30
David became King in Isreal at 30
Joseph became prime minister in Egypt at 30

Early this year, during my time of meditation, God impressed it on my heart, that I was about the age of his Son, when he was on earth, and that I should stop limiting myself.

John the baptist was thirtish when the media of his time classified him as the voice.
