He Saved Me!

Posted by Adeolu Akinyemi @ May 2nd, 2007 |

Yesterday, I decided to go the office in spite of mixed feelings not to. I had told a few people I would be there, and I felt the need to go, just because of them, and because I didn’t have their numbers and could not call them back not to come. On getting to the office, one thing led to the other, until minutes after 8pm, when I finally decided that work never ends, and decided to go home.

I was going home alone, the first time in a really long time. The journey home was not a long one, so I decided to take things a bit easy, and not move so fast. I took a bend at coca cola bus stop into Agidingbi and had a straight road till I get to Big threats, I hadn’t gone far on this road, when I saw my hand moving into action before my brain could comprehend what was about to happen. From retrospect, what had happened was another car had swerved into my lane, and I was set up for a head to head. I turned to the left without thinking about it, heard a big bang, the lights shut out for about 30seconds, I couldn’t hear a thing, felt as if my ears were off. I looked around, looked back for signs of the other car. I touched my face and felt blood flowing freely to my shirt. I was hurt, but alive.

As soon as I discovered that the other car did not stop, I took a good evaluation of what had happened. I saw pieces of glasses all over my body, inside my face and all over the car, my side mirror was off, the glass on the drivers side was all over the place and my phone wasn’t dialing out, I was alone. I gathered myself, and drove down to Mr. Biggs Agidingbi. As soon as I got there, one of the security officials screamed, “customer what happened?” He guided me to their rest room to wash off the blood and remove some of the glass pieces. The normal aches and pain came, but I was glad, glad to be alive, and complete. Alas it wasn’t even so bad.

This experience gave me an opportunity to reflect on my life again very quickly, and ask myself fundamental questions about the most important things to me. I guess we all have these times, when a close shave with eternity makes us live the days ahead wiser. At the spur of the moment it doesn’t seem like a big issue, but when you take out time to reflect, it makes you see the vanity of life and the value of laying treasures where moth and rust can’t corrupt or where thieves can’t break in and steal.

So how do you lay up treasures that are eternal? I believe that the basic instruction is to accept the gift of eternal life, be good to others, feed the poor, clothe the naked, visit the prisoners, bring good information (gospel) to the poor, help the helpless and generally add value. Do good!

“Whatever you do to the least of this my brethren, so have you done unto me” - Jesus Christ

Of all the things I have done with my life, being a blessing is the one that is most refreshing. Knowing that I am a steward of my life and resources, I try, to ensure that I live my life to please the one to whom I must answer. What everybody else says is secondary. We don’t need to thank God only when we have a close shave, what about the many that almost happen that we don’t even know about? What about the little delays that kept us out of harms way, or the little detours that God so perfectly arranges. He saved me, and continues to. What about you? Are you balancing your investments?

I will not die before my time, and if you understand it, neither will you. We are not qualified for the future that we cannot see, I see the future, I see things just beginning, and I say thank you, for making me a part of your success story. See you at the top.

  8. Bergery responds:

    Hi Deolu
Good to know u are well.
Logged on earlier in the day to catch up with the flow of things on the site(before ‘YOU SAVED ME’ POPPED UP) and one thing that struck me was that you must be a very blessed man going by the number of times different pple say God bless u after reading ur piece and dropping their comments.
Indeed u are truly blessed and as one of my favourite lines when praying goes ‘may u be a source of blessing onto others’ cos i personally believe life is worthless and meaninless if a ‘being’ cannot in anyway impart positively onto others.
May you be well striken in age before u depart or as u desire.
    Enjoy its a new beginning!!!

  9. Otome Oyo responds:

  10. lateef responds:

Deolu, thank God for sparing your life, you will live to witness greater things in your life.but i think that whenever you are having mixed feelings about anything, just be more careful and if possible stay away.i somehow believe that there’s usually a premonition before events occur but not everyone gets it,at times you get it but still dont have the knowledge to prevent it.
anyway, may God almighty continue to protect you abundantly.more blessings.

  11. Kayode responds:

Deolu, Happy to hear u r fine.

You are blessed and you truly have a purpose on this earth.

    Kpele o!

Blessed be God. He truly saves. Purpose is it!

  13. oba responds:

Deolu, as much as I thank God for this great testimony I’ll like to mention a few points.

The truth is that you are on assignment to this generation, and a man on assignment, especially when sent by HIM - I am that is I am, can not die, just the same way ‘actors’ don’t die in films. You on assignment and can not be stop…not even by death or the devil.

Secondly, the little I’ve known about my DAD as proven that He does not leave us unguided. That feeling you had in the morning could not have been ordinary. Taking some minutes to figure it out could have made the message HE wants to pass across clearer.

    Please note.

Finally let us all note that Sefteg, Nospetco, Wealth Link, 6K4U… are all good investment but the best house to invest in is ETERNITY.

Thank God for you Deolu. Its great and good to be alive!
