Once upon a time…

Posted by Adeolu Akinyemi @ January 4th, 2007 |

Today I stumbled on my archives…the diaries I used between 2000-2003. Well, as opposed to smiling and laughing at myself for the way I thought in those day, I was really refreshed seeing that I thought so deeply back then as well. I was happy at the directions I had set, and how far I had gone, I was awed by the discoveries that I have made. I thought about doing a post with all the poems I had written even back then, but believe me, it would be a very long post. So I made up my mind to release a few at a time. Some of them sounded childish no doubt, but like they say in history, “Not to know what happened before you, is to remain forever a child”, it is good to look at the lessons from the past and forget it’s details. Here are some all time short write-ups from my past, enjoy!

And if you feel like laughing at me, please do, at least you know that I started from somewhere and didn’t just happen :)

Title : Don’t be a ballon

A ballon rises and is affected, by the utterances from the mout of man

All it takes is just some wind, and it’s suddenly out of size

The mouth of men have never failed, to hosannah him today and crucify him tomorrow

How true, that very few, actually see with their eyes, and reason from their minds

He who would stake his all at the utterannce of a man, has signed the gatepass into an inconsistent path.

Title : TIME

The reason we have it, a wise man said, is so that everything doesn’t happen all at once

It’s the only resource we have equal, for no man has more than 24 each day

Those who wonder where it has gone, have not told it where to go

For time must be instructed for by itself, like fire is a terrible master.

When there is so much to do, don’t do it all at once, that is why we have time.

There is time for everything.

Time must be invested, not spent. It must be preserved not squandered.

When there is so much for so little time, turn to the one who is beyond the frame of time.

Title: The bus ride

The entire environment was dark, with flashes of light coming in once in a while. Where her feet were, recieved not as much as a ray, but not her thighs. Although modestly shielded by an old fading dress was nontheless within the incesant light range. I guessed she must be in her late forties. We were side by side in a bus. She hissed from time to time, muttered to herself and shook her head…

I wondered… what a hassle mothers go through. I tried to press the thought further, and imagined the agonies bestowed by a wayward son, oh how pathetic, I wondered.

All of a sudden, the bus stopped, and the woman alighted and broke my thoughts. I took a close look and discovered, the oldest she could be was her early thirties. Suddenly, her probable problems took a U-turn.

Imagine. People at different ages and stages face different challenges. What bothers a man better not bother a boy, and the inverse is also repulsive.

While a young directionless youth can utilize street light to play draft, a more purposeful one will use lantern to get certified. Lord, let me not wake up an hour after my stage.

Title: Communication

Oh what joy, when your signals go not unattended to

When the echoes you sent are duely replied

When you shoot in the dark and the target drops

When in hope you reach out with excitement and sense a warm welcome

The entirety of nature as I see, operates on a simple give and take

The sun gives the trees light; the trees give the monkeys shade

The monkeys give some trees a heart attack, but also reciprocate with manure.

Life is in giving, for whatever it is, that ceases to leave ceases to live

To fro, to fro, it’s communciation.

Title : Error: Extreme

Shhh…..

Cold ice water in red hot pot

Extreme reactions, sudden distance.

Tripple blinks…

Sharp light on long closed eyes

Extreme reflexes, momentarily blind

When two extremes collide, unsteady responses abound.

When short men, cast long shadows, their sun is about to set.

He that will cook a frog, must gradually increase the heat.

For nothing attracts opposition like the introduction of Extremes.

There are two particular ones from 2000 that I’m looking forward to publishing together, they take me out of here just reading them… one is “alternatives” and the other “let the goose be”.

Lest I forget… the RECHARGE magazines came in on January 1, they looked fantastic. Grab your copy now, and let’s know how you can be a part of RECHARGE!
