The Source of Motivation

“If your heart ain’t in it, your head don’t matter” – Unknown

It’s one of those 2am nights again, in Sheraton Hotel Abuja. I was already on my bed ready to sleep. I felt I was tired, and actually set an alarm to wake me as early as 5:30am so I can dress up to catch the first flight out this morning, but all of a sudden, here I am, wide awake and motivated!

The true source of motivation is not found in the rationalizations of the head, or the analysis of the factors of motivation. When the chips are down, motivation is a matter of the heart. When your heart connects with a decision or direction, motivation is easy. If you’ve been wondering why you are tired of that job, can’t seem to feel excited with that activity, the issue is not in your head, it’s in your heart. Continue Reading »

180 degrees, Vision and Concept.

180degsMany questions have been coming in lately about 180 degrees. What is it about, what is the vision, and what is the concept? While the clarity of all these questions can be assumable, it is important to make it clear once and for all.

The concept first. The concept of 180 degrees is a complete turnaround, it’s the idea of change or metamorphosis. The day this idea was born in my mind, I picked up my phone and called a good friend – ‘Gbenga Sesan, he caught it immediately and also shared his thoughts, making the idea of 180 degrees what I will talk about as we, rather than I. Customer Intimacy?

I got asked a question today. I was asked by one of the readers of my site, who has become a friend, “Do you know about Customer Intimacy?” I first thought it was a trick question :) but eventually, rather than do all the work of writing and sending to just one person, I have decided to make this available here for you as well. Who knows, we all have customers, and it will be useful to somebody!

Customer intimacy? First it sounds like a concept fraught with more downsides than upsides, but no. Customer Intimacy is a currently growing terminology used to describe the act of becoming responsible for your customer’s results. This is not merely more customer satisfaction, but actually working with your customers to ensure that their objective of patronizing you is met. With customer intimacy it’s not only just a matter of goodwill to the customer it’s all the way support, loyalty and collaborative pursuit of results. Customer intimacy has actually been a topic of discussion now for over 8yrs. Fred Wiersema wrote a book in 1998 about customer intimacy. Continue Reading »

Published by Adeolu Akinyemi under Encouragement, Recap

Don't worryYesterday was one of those days! I’ve not had many of such days in my life, when staying tops and smiling was by concious effort. When its as if it’s one ‘funny’ news after the other. It’s so interesting that I wrote this title yesterday but was not able to write the article in it. Here I am today, trying to remember exactly what went wrong yesterday. The only thing I can remember was that seeing my site the way it was yesterday was like the last straw after a string of events.

I guess there are those days, when worry tries it’s best to steal great moments from us. When it’s as if “whats all this stress about?”. This reminds me of a story I came across today. Continue Reading »

Life is a Buffet

I’m in Abuja at the moment, writing this from the lounge on the 8th floor of Sheraton. I came to Abuja for completely different reasons from the one keeping me behind. I have come to learn, that no matter how keen, careful or conscious we are, there are things we don’t plan, they just happen to us, and we are the better for it.

I was discussing with a friend – Deji Olatunde, yesterday, when he told me a story about his younger cousin, and how he had some years ago told him that life was like a buffet. The cousin had called that he was indeed going for a buffet and he had remembered his quote. In case you are wondering what this means, I have decided to help analyze it, the way I see it.

I have come to discover that the heights that great men reached were not by sudden flight, they were by conscious choices, struggles, perseverance, relationships and skill. I discovered that though there are many ingredients in the stew of success, there is none as critical as choice in motion. Continue Reading »

Your only shot at greatness!

We all have the potentials to be great at one thing! According to Bill Gates, this one thing is that thing we are passionate about. I believe this, but i believe that passion needs to be better qualified. I was listening to Jim Collin lately, and heard an analogy that he gave that sank in the point.

There are 3 circles that should matter to every individual who desires success, or aspires to be great. These three circles define 3 areas of life, and it is the meeting point of these three circles that one’s shot at greatness lies.
